I have been reading and learning but this is my first post. I bought my first mountain bike in 1992. GT Timberline in green. I rode that thing all over the mountains above San Bernardino in the early 1990's. Ok, I moved and bought a 2000 GT XCR 4000. Still have it but that is another post. I ended up giving Timberline to a family member. So, I just got that old timberline back. Now, I think it is safe to say that the bike is in great shape.
It would make me smile to see it back on the road / dirt.
My 14 year old daughter could ride it and I could use it for a camping ride. Everything still works but some minor adjustments are needed.
One major problem is that in 1996 or so I put on an RST 460 front shock. That shock is in great shape externally but internally it is done. I know that polymer inserts are used but whatever is in there now is done.
So, how to proceed. Want to put some cheap high bread tires on it and ride it for fun.
Do I attempt to buy parts for that old RST 460?
Do I attempt to locate a replacement front fork?
What do you think guys?
I am currently riding a Specialized Rockhopper Comp29.
I have the XCR 4000 as a back up and will be putting lights on for night time canal riding.
This old Timberline would be for fun and smiles.
