    Williston ND

I wanted to start a Williston thread. Both for meet and greets, bar hops, gravel rides, etc...

So, who's up here in the area?

I'm on the other end of the state. How is the oil boom affecting the local riding? News reports don't make it sound too good...

If been slacking a bit with local/ road riding because of the snow and such, but the roads are almost too busy to ride safe. I finally got me a rear flashing light and road a little last night. there is a pretty good trail along the little muddy that's good for a quick ride. I need to explore a little more... Not sure there is much more "local" riding other than that.

Sweet! I want to check this out. I'd like to ride it before August though. How many days does it take to ride the entire thing?

I've been out here for 2 years. Most roads are far too busy in the Williston area to ride very safely. My friend and I plan to attempt the Maah Daah Hey in a weekend hopefully sometime this summer. Otherwise we make weekend trips down to Medora, and ride the south portion of the trail. Definitely a fun trail, but very different compared to the MN trails I'm used to.

Driving the roads in the oil field is dangerous. Cycling them is insane (IMO). However, if you drive outside the drilling area there are many miles of graded (to varying degrees) roads, if that's your thing. I live in Dickinson and took a ride to Gladstone and back yesterday morning at dawn. Saw very few cars and no oil field type traffic, just horses, cows, pheasants, and green rolling farmland. This winter I plan on putting on studded tires and riding down the Heart River when it freezes up. Hopefully I won't get run over by a snowmobile.

So is anyone still around in Williston, I'm relocating there and was needing some guys or girls to go riding with, or anyone at all this coming spring because I imagine its to cold to ride now.
