Thats gonna be a hell of a move. There isnt too much here for single track. There are 2 trail areas just outside of Minot, then we have the Maah Daah Hey trail about 3 hours south west of here. There are some hit and miss areas but Ive never taken the time to go to them.

I dont know about trial riding. There is a small bmx/skate park in town so there may be some there. What kind of exploratory riding are you talking about? There is alot of land up here, but not the kind that you want to explore around in. i.e. flat fields.

How about the Bottineau area? That's not to far away.

There is a state park up there, but the only trails i believe it has a maybe a few dirt paths that go around the lake. Ive never heard or seen anyone mention about going mountian biking up there. If you go want to drive a little on past that into Canadia, there is Riding Mountain National Park. Ive never been there but from what I gathered, there are miles and miles of endless trails. Basically, if you live in Minot and want good mountain biking, driving a few hours is a must but one trip down to the Maah Daah Hey and you wont really care about anything else ND has to offer.

You have a couple decent options nearby. The Bison Plant is only a couple miles outside town off of Hwy 52. It's about a 3 mile loop. Nothing technical, but ride it fast and it becomes more enjoyable. About 20 miles outside Minot is a pretty neat place called Black Butte Adventures. The one loop that is still ridable is 5 miles and you crest the butte on the property. It's on a working ranch, so you'll encounter some manure, but it's certainly worth driving to because it's so close.

Don't get the impression that your only option is hours away. Yes, your best option is making the trip to Maah Dah Hey, but you will have a couple places that will be fine when you don't feel like driving four hours.

elsewhere, i moved to Bismarck at the end of May this year, which isn't far from Minot. I just moved from Texas, so we have very similar move! I actually ride trials, and so far I'm the only known trials rider in ND. since I moved I haven't ridden trials much, since Bismarck literally has nothing to ride on, so I've been riding MTB more, but I bet if we got together we could find a place to ride trials.

did you make the move yet?

Bismarck has tons of fun riding for street trials. Just head downtown. There are ledges gaps and rails everywhere.

Welcome to minot. We have a few local places to ride just outside town, but the real stuff is down a few hours away. How do you like vals?

The crew at Val's IMO is an awesome bunch.
I've worked several shops over the last decade and a half and
have found the least attitude and most family attitude here in Minot.
Come find me, lets ride snowpack!

I know this is a thread resurrection, but I just accepted an internship for a company. I will be based in Texas where I live now, but taking several business trips to Bismarck throughout the summer of 2014. I'm wondering if there are any bike shops there that have decent mtb rentals. I doubt the company will pay for me to travel with my bike, and there looks to be some good riding.
