    Centennial Trail - Which way?

Looking at riding the Centennial Trail later on this year. Is there a better way to do it North to South? South to North? Any hints or tips? Easiest way to shuttle a car? Best camping spots? Anything would be great.

We were all thinking 80-100miles a day. So a 3-4 day trip. I'm guessing it's best from North to South.

The centennial is about 110 miles long and most people can do 30 or so miles a day. I personally would ride it North to South but either would be fine. Give Rabbit Bicycles a call in Hill City as they will shuttle you where you need to go. Dalton lake, Pactola, Sheridan, and Horsetheif lakes all have campgrounds within a mile or two of the trail. Bicycles are not allowed in parts of bear butte, black elk wilderness, and wind cave national park. The north half tends to be a great ride and you'll have a blast. South of Sheridan lake is pretty good, but will ride a little slower, due to hike a bikes, rough trail conditions in spots, and lots of horse use in Custer state park. I've ridden most of the trail so if you have more specific questions I'll do my best to answer. What time of year?

That answers a lot of my questions. I meant to say we were going to do 20-30miles a day. Not sure where 100 came from.

I live in Rapid City. A good place to start is the Alkaline Trailhead near Sturgis. It goes west and under the freeway. It's the Fort Meade Recreation Area. I think it's a fun ride.

Man, you threw me when you said 100 miles a day. Mickelson Trail no problem but Centennial...that would be an accomplishment!

Here is a map to plan your ride. Show mileage, camping options and location of wilderness areas and proximity to towns.

Would love to hear a ride report when you finish.
    Life is about the ride.
