Tis Gravel Season...Ride Pics Thread 2017

Since the CX season is well behind us and the "Post Your Cross Bike" thread sees mostly pics of bikes in front of suburban garage doors and also since the CX forum seems to have encompassed Gravel riding as well...I figured we could start a Gravel Ride Pics thread. This is not where you post your bike hanging off your car and regurgitate how much money you have bolted onto it. This is where you post pictures of out of the way places your bike has taken you via some kind of dirt laden path...COMMENCE:

I'll play. Lots of rain in Sunny CA this winter. Big boulder slid off the side of the mountain.

Do you have any routes you could share around RP? Just moved to North County and I've ridden my full suspension MTB all over, but haven't found tons of trails doable on my gravel/CX bike.

    Thanks!

Ya, a lot of RP area is fireroads, DG paths created by housing developers and connector trails. That picture was taken on the dirt connector between 56 bike path and del vino ct. If you go up to del vino then left on rancho toyon there is a little trail off to the right. Take that and it meets up with powerline fireroad. I usually take that down to the bottom of RP canyon near the creek. If you cross park village road, there is a fun gravel road behind the school. It's called darkwood canyon. Here are some of my gravel rides around the area:

The picture above is from this ride:

Awesome, thanks man! I've been riding the Mule Hill trail starting near Lake Hodges out toward San Pasqual, but RP seems to have more diverse options. See you out there!

Edit: adding some images so I'm not totally derailing the thread!

Mule trail is great. If you continue east you go up raptor ridge (a longish singletrack climb). But if you keep going east it goes another 5 miles or so to the end of Bandy Cyn Rd. All gravelly and CXable. Very fun section back there. There's also a nice gravel road from Hernandez Hide-a-way towards the Lake Hodges dam. You should check it out.

From an after work loop this week that had woodchipped neighborhood trails, paved rail trail, paved roads, gravel rail trail, built for MTB singletrack, and logging road. All in the span of about two hours.

I love it but haven't ridden it as much as I would like to, 50hr work weeks and camping on the weekends has hindered my time behind bars. I would definitely recommend it though as it is a hell of a lot of fun

Nothing as scenic as Taos, but I managed to get out for a bit at lunch today. Little network of trails and gravel in the middle of Memphis.

Here's a couple from this year so far...

People think of the PNW as green, rainy, and tree covered, and for the western portion that is mostly correct. In January, we had an uncharacteristically nice day that made for a very nice, if chilly, ride near Olympia. Note to CA residents: this is unusual weather, please do not move here.

Tis Gravel Season...Ride Pics Thread 2017-img_0095%5B1%5D.jpg

But on the eastern side, things are a lot more barren. Back in 2010, Rideviciouscycle.com put on the first gravel fondo that I know of in WA. About 50 riders showed. In 2018 it was more like 250, and sold out almost immediately. March weather is not always this nice.

The Tanpan didn’t work well with my shifters. Lost the clutch by going back to the 105GS and the Roadlink, but it shifts beautifully. Hey I tried, but the Tanpan just doesn’t do what it promises. But I have a Tanpan and XT derailleur for sale if you’re interested
    Enjoy the ride...

Been doing a couple of gravel riding rides a week in between trail riding. A few pics from around central/northern Vermont.

Miles and miles of these roads, and none of them flat. SE Ohio will surprise you.

Pics from a recent gravel grinder.

I can wrap my head around this kind of gravel grinding.
