Write your name on your garmin, sort of

I saw this come across the interwebs today, and thought others would like this.

Write you name...or whatever...on your Garmin's start up screen.

It took me a bit longer on a mac. The mac was giving me some strange file protection issues, but all worked as advertised.

I found the font to be smaller than my liking. While in there, you can change the font size and make your message more readable. Also, there is nothing wrong with putting your message on different lines by using the return key and your message will automatically be centered.

I tried this today with my 510, but when Notepad opened, it only had a couple lines from those shown on the link, and one of them just ended mid line. So I saved it as a copy just to be safe, and then wrote the text in on my own. It worked, but the wrapped text would split in the middle of the word, and I couldn't get it to wrap right, or even center line by line. So I played around with font size and the spacebar until it displayed legibly enough. It's still not centered, but at least you can read the full message now.

I thought this thread was going to be about writing your name on a gps track like the Nazca lines or something.

We actually already had that in a thread, but I forget where. And there was some guy in San Fran who was scribing a monologue with the grid-pattern streets.

No dice on the startup message on the 500, but you can still eave the contact info in a text file in the memory, in case some technologically-enabled-good-Samaritan cares to look.

There was this thread, from a couple years back
    My "signature ride"

The OP's attachment isn't showing up for me, but the strava link a few posts down works.

If I recall correctly, the "signature" ride was the person's name written with GPS tracks. I've tried this a couple of times, but have never made it work. I think you need to use something like a football field to really make it legible.

Got me all excited, won't work on my 500. Great idea though. Got me thinking and I'm going to etch my # on the back.
