    Will this GPS work?

    All –

    I need some help.

I am just looking for a basic / cheap GPS to use in the mountains family bike / hike trip that we’re taking in a couple of weeks.

All I really want is one that will help mark my trail and when it’s time to go back, so that I know which turns to take (if there are any splits-offs on the trails) going back to base camp.

Now with that in mind would the basic eTrex Vista be a good choice (linky: )?

A buddy of mine friend has one for sale that’s less then $80.00 and claims it was used maybe 5-times.

Sounds like a great deal! (that's how I got my first GPS)
    I say jump on it!

The basic eTrex will definately work. Almost any GPS unit will do what you are wanting to do. The thing about more expensive units is just the features that they come with, such as games (who play games on a GPS unit?), fish calendars, driving directions in town, ability to put maps underneath your tracks etc.
