I upgraded from the 305 to the 705 and I was able to use my heart rate strap from my old unit with my new unit. I would assume that the cadence sensor would work as well.

Have you ruled out upgrading to a colorado or keeping the 305 and adding an eTrex Vista? If yes, why? purely a size/weight thing?

I went OTB and cracked the screen on my 305. I just got my 705 from geoman.com and my old 305 HR/cadence stuff works fine with the 705. I don't know about the model # info, that's out in the garage and it's pretty damn hot out there right now
    I should be out riding....

thanks for the info. the reason im asking is that on garmins site in the specs area it says YES (SOME VERSIONS) of the 705. and if you go to the versions area it has diff model numbers. are the diff model numbers because of the diff accessories the kit comes with, or does each kit come with a diff 705. i would think a 705 is a 705.

im going to try and call tomorrow but i dont know if i can take the wait.

Website is talking about "packages." A 705 is a 705. Only 1 version of the unit itself.

Thelonius71, you recommend adding a mapping unit with the 305 as opposed to upgrading to a single 705?
