    Latest ver Mapsource GPX Bug

Is anyone else experiencing this bug? When you save to (export) to GPX file the application crashes? The version is 6.15.6

I emailed Garmin and they said that it was something wrong with my computer (bu11$hit) and when I pushed back they said I had to call Tech Support so that they could trouble shoot the problem - who has time for that?

    No problems here.

Same version and I have Garmin Topo, City Nav,Iibycus, and CA Top all loaded as mapsets.

I searched the GroundSpeak forums and found no mention of it there either.

I'm having the same problem with MapSource 6.15.6. Doesn't always happen, but it can surface when saving tracks from the GPS or whenever editing and saving existing track files.

Normally, though I've seen this fail too, you can copy the track to another running copy of MapSource and save it there.

I should start using something else, 'cause MapSource sucks to begin with!

I have exactly the same problem on two computers (different setup). So annoying! Mapsource really sucks. I found an alternative: go to GPSies.com. Install a Garmin plugin called Garmin Communicator, and that's it -- you can download the tracks straight from your GPS device to the site and from there to your computer.

It's easier than that, even. There are a multitude of different programs out there that can communicate directly with a Garmin and can transfer .gpx files straight to your PC. No website intermediary. The only thing I use mapsource for is putting maps on my GPS. I have City Nav, Topo, and gpsfiledepot topo as mapsets on mine. As such, I MIGHT use the program once a year. I use other programs for downloading tracks.

Only problem with that is you loose the edit capability you would get with Mapsource.

I use GPSies.com just to download GPX tracks from my device to the PC (because Mapsource crashes when saving GPX files). When I have the file on my PC, I can use Mapsource to edit it -- and save the edited version -- no problem...

Let's see...I did a post awhile back that was supposed to be stickied. My request has yet to be answered.

Anyway, Sporttracks is technically free (donationware, anyway).
    Look into MN DNR Garmin
    GPS Babel
    Quantum GIS
    The free version of Topofusion
    ArcGIS Explorer

Those are a few examples. I don't know of all of the options out there...that's impossible. I come at this from the GIS side of things, hence the GIS applications. HOWEVER, with those apps, you do NOT lose the ability to edit. You can edit each track point however you like. There are paid programs, too...couldn't begin to list all of them, but I know a few.

    Delorme Topo USA
    National Geographic Topo!
    Topofusion (paid versions)

GPS Babel indeed works. Will look later at the other options. Thanks!!
I sent Garmin an email regarding Mapsource -- let's see if/when they respond. But it really seems I don't need it that much now.

After I realized there was an issue with MapSource, I began using EasyGPS to download tracks from my unit.

Very easy to use for saving tracks off the GPS or combining tracks for area maps.

For editing, I send the track(s) to TopoFusion.

Maybe the newest version of mapsource precludes the saving of "illegal trails?"

I have this problem as well. Apparently it is going to be fixed with the next update.

You have to open an existing .gpx before you can save your new data as a .gpx.

    I usually do this...

    1. Download your track/route/waypoints from the GPS
    2. Save the file as a .gdb
    3. Open an already existing .gpx file
    4. Open the .gdb file you just saved
    5. Save the .gdb as a .gpx
