    GPS newbie (etrex 20)

Just cracked open my new etrex20 and have a question.

Obviously the basemap doesn't have enough detail. I have Topofusion and opened up a route I have ridden. What I want to do is export the topofusion topo to the GPS.

I followed these instructions: TopoFusion.com | Uploading Garmin Custom Maps

No dice. When I look at that area on the etrex it is still just the basemap.

    Suggestions?

Am I missing something? Has the etrex been updated to take raster maps?

Granted, the (unlisted) Edge800 takes raster maps in the google format, you sometimes need to zoom in, way in, to see them.

I'm probably the one missing something! Was under the impression that the new etrex 20 and 30 would take Garmin Custom Maps?

My Etrex is about 10 years old, so I can be of no further help.

All the references online say no, but they are all a few years old and don't mention the Edge 800 as raster-compatible, but I know it is.

I used to make custom vector maps for my Etrex back in the day, which was much pain for little gain. But if you want to go down that road, there are some new tools which claim to make it less painful.

for now, use gpsfiledepot.com for vector maps. you'll get more coverage.

I load rasters from TF onto my Oregon from time to time, but each tileset has a limited range of optimal viewing resolutions. they don't scale well like vector maps.

as for the new etrexes being supported by Topofusion, you'll have to take that to the TF forums.

but by chance, have you looked to make sure your .kmz map layers are enabled under map settings?

I loaded a map from gpsfiledepot.com onto my Etrex 20. Map shows up as loaded but I cannot switch from basemap to show on screen. I have not yet been able to find any instructions to fix this that actually work. Anyone here done this?
