New question here. Garmin Edge 800 woes - alternatives?

Been having a few issues with my Garmin Edge 800 which seem to be getting more common recently, namely the unit freezing, turning itself off, the touch screen not working accurately (no matter where you touch the screen on the map view it only activates the on screen buttons at the bottom of the screen, not those at the top). I've tried resetting the unit which might improve things for a short while, but then the problems reoccur...

This is starting to grind rather and I'm wondering if there are any credible alternatives to this unit?

I need the map & guidance feature on my gps.

Thanks in advance for your input.

    Replace it

Even if it is no longer on warranty Garmin will replace it for $99.

Glenn, have you any resolution to the problem? I'm a fellow 800 owner and the screen has frozen one time recently, so it gives me cause to worry.

May not be acceptable to the OP (or me), because they might simply give another 800 that will have the same problem a year from now. $100/yr is not my idea of reliable.

Things seem to have improved a bit - I'm now being very carefully about correctly ejecting the GPS from my laptop each & every time and I'm also doing the screen calibration before pretty much every ride.

    Not ideal, but improved.

I look forward to the day when we have a GPS unit which has a touch screen that works as well as an iPhone.
