Garmin Edge 500 : where'd my track go?
Trying to figure out where my track went. I finished a ride tonight, rolled up to the garage and checked out the numbers, 11 miles, 2179 ft of elevation gain. I hit stop and then turned off the gps. Walked into the house, plugged my usb cord into the gps, realized it wasn't plugged into the computer so plugged it in and then went to strava. Hit upload activity but there was no new activity on the device. Same with Garmin Connect. I unplugged it and turned it on and the track was gone. Track from a couple days ago was still in the history, so all the history wasn't lost.
Trying to figure out if I accidentally hit some sequence of buttons while turning the device off that erased my track? Has this happened to anyone else? Pretty frustrating, had a really good run down one trail and am sure I had a PR on it.
Thanks In Advance!
Yes, had it happen on my 705 years back. Falls into the "$#!t happens" category.
One thing I do now, (always, after seeing many similar instances in the Garmin Forums), is press and hold the lap/reset to save the track and clear the memory. When I plug into the computer, I see a "saving history" and progress bar (the 500 may be different). I have not had it happen again, but my technique may or may not be the reason.
Cool, thanks. I've downloaded 240 tracks without issue which is what makes this one confusing. Wondering if my gps is on the fritz or if it was some freak user error. Doesn't seem to common, so crossing my fingers that it doesn't happen again tomorrow.
And GPS is toast... Lost another track, so did a full reset. After that I had 1 track that saved ok, but the next appears corrupt, couldn't be read by Garmin Connect. The next track after that I got a "couldn't read file" error on strava and Garmin Connect got stuck uploading. Looks like it's going back to Garmin. Sucks, 2 months out of warranty.
