    which garmin

My father recently lost his 305 on the trail. My brother and I are looking at buying him a replacement. He rides road and MTB, no running. What would you recommend?

For GPS I would recommend the Garmin 705. Hands down it's the best!
If he wants a computer with a Power Meter but no GPS then check out ibikesports.com

If the Garmin 705 is to expensive get him the black and white 305. Or get him gift certificates and let him decide for himself.

Thanks for the info. Im not sure he would ever add a powermeter but GPS, HR and cadence are important. It is pricey. but splitting it wont be so bad. Would you recomend preloaded maps, road or topo?

Reading the maps on a 705 is difficult. If you buy him that one make sure your can return it because no one wants to put on reading glasses while mtn biking.

My GPS came preloaded with the North American Road and Street Maps, which I find infinitely useful. He may want the Topo maps if he likes go way off the beaten path. But I haven't found a need for them yet.

Just get him another 305. They're practically giving them away now. There for a while you could get one free with an Easton wheel set purchase---maybe still. Then throw in a gift cert for a new pair of tires and I'll bet he'll be lovin'it.
