    GARMIN 500 elevation stopped working

In the middle of a ride yesterday all data fields having to do with Elevation stopped working, went for another ride this morning still not working. All other settings are working, it did get a little wet but nothing it shouldnt be able to handle. Everything else continued working and still does. I find seeing the grade along with heart rate at the same time really helps me stay focused on the long climbs so this function is really important to me. I love this computer so hopefully something easy to fix.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks

There are small opening that allow the barometric altimeter to sense the pressure, make sure they are clear. Do a reset as well.

std. disclaimer - I use a 705, so you will have to look up how to do the above.

Every once in a while, the elevation gain freezes on my 705. I'll be miles into a ride with X amount of elev. gain showing on the 705 screen and it'll be stuck there the entire ride. Strava or GC will show the actual elev. gain when uploaded...strange. I'm not concerned, it's more of an oddity.

    I should be out riding....

Mine also clogged during a particularly muddy race from road-spray.

Clearing the sensor opening solved the problem.

Wait, is the altimeter stuck at some elevation, or is it showing no value?

If it was showing nothing... then the problem isn't a clogged sensor, that would just be stuck at some random elevation.
