Garmin 24k topo map of california is NOT a USGS QUAd MAP
This map does not contain the exact same data as a USGS 7.5 Quad map
its missing section lines, and some select feature points (mines, caves, etc)
I'm dissapointed since I was hoping for a paperless USGS map to use with my OREGON.
Also, since this is a "chip only" map, what software do I use with ti?
Works great on the 705 on the Bike but I'd like to print some maps too...
Garmins Senior tech support person does NOT know what a section line is
tech support email thread below
What section lines are you referring to? The lat/long lines?

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I will be happy to help
you with this. I apologize if there are certain areas missing that you
hoped to see in the coverage. It is a 24K map, with a lot of
information. Just like our City Navigator maps, with so much
information to record, there will be areas that are missing.
Sadly that does not really surprise me. I'm sure that garmin has had to reduce the extra features (mines, section lines, etc.) in order to reduce the data size. If you were to take a whole state of 7.5 topo's with 100% detail it would probably not fit on the card.
The same is true of the city nav dvd -vs- the micro sd card version, the full city nav dvd is something over 4 gig if I remember right, but the micro sd card version is 2 something gig....obviously some stuff/detail had to go to make it a smaller package.
