    XTC composite 29er headset problem

I have a 2012 XTC composite 29er that I've been riding for the past 2 years and the headset has developed a clunk. I've replaced the cartridge sealed bearings so far and greased the cups liberally but it didn't fix the problem. The Lower aluminum bearing cup is very tight in the frame, but the top cup easily comes out and I believe the play is due to this. Is there a shim available to keep the top cup tighter in the frame? I hope I didn't slightly ovalize the top of the head tube. Any thoughts?

I'd try wrapping the top cup in some Teflon pipe tape, might snug it up a bit. Don't go too thick tho cause it may damage the frame.

I believe this is a drop in head set and shouldn't be that tight. It shouldn't clunk either though. IME that is a frame issue. Make sure it doesn't have a small crack in that area.
