XL frame & a setback seatpost, you must be big!

When installing a bigger shock, isn't there any problems with the lower link touching the bottom bracket?

I am 6'2" but have 34" inseam and 6'4" wingspan so I needed the extra length lol

No there are no clearance issues for the frame components but, it did raise the bb 1/16in and when I had a granny gear the chain would rub on the chain stay in low-high gearing which shouldn't be used anyways due to cross chaining.

I checked the shock clearance by removing all psi and running it thru the full range of motion btw.

I've asked about the shock because even though I've got a similar frame (Anthem) I can't still quite visualize the geometry differences caused by a few inches difference. What's the effective real travel now? Any way to properly calculate that?

There is a thread somewhere about the usable travel gained, that's where I got the idea, I think it's somewhere around .5inch

the same way you calculate the stock travel.

length of new shock stroke x avg leverage ratio of the bike, which is determined by dividing the stock wheel travel by the stock shock stroke.

    5.00/1.75 = 2.857 x 2.0 = 5.71

    Hi All,

    Here are my two cents..
First of all thanks for the great pics and inspiration, this thread is great!

I bought my X5 last year and despite the fact it was waaay better than my previous bike I wasn't fully satisfied.
This year I spent some time studying possible options for a fork upgrade and picked Rev DA RCT3

I must say I am AMAZED. It's so plush, smooth.. compared to stock Tora TK the difference is huge so all of you who hesitate and wondering like me if spending some money (actually a lot.. ) is worth - I can assure you - it is. Finally I feel this suspension is working.

Now fork is so good that the stock damper (giant's one) can't keep up. I'm thinking about fox rp23 but the question is.. 184mm or 190mm? Any advise will be much appreciated as I'm not sure how maestro will react to 190mm.

    Cheers

You seem to like your suspension to be active and plush, if that turns out to be true, go for something without Boost Valve. Just my two cents too... Either get one of those new Fox Floats without it or a Monarch.

oh yes, now I really like plush and active suspension. If I'm not able to adjust damper I'll consider also Monarch (need to dig through all topics about it..) Still wondering which one to choose from: 184mm or 190mm?

My first trail ride on this bad boy!

For it being 2 sizes to large.... I felt really comfortable riding it!

It does look big, given your saddle height.

Some things which would help the handling:

    1. Short, flipped stem with all spacers underneath removed. (You can replace that cone headset cover with a flat one and reclaim some steerer).

    2. Lower rise or flat bar, with sweep and width that feels best.

That's my plan when I save some money ..... That will be my temporary fix until I find a med frame to buy
