Mud gets thrown up and forward by the tyre, and then because of your forward motion, you ride into it. The Neoguard catches it, and keeps the worst of the mud out of your face. Not as much coverage as a full mud guard, but it gets the worst stuff, and looks much prettier!

    Update...

A few new lighter (but still strong and trail/all mountain) parts now bring it down to 24.7lbs with a dropper post and a 150mm fork.

    New grips/Painted a few parts..

I plan to add some custom vinyl die-cut stickers but I'm not sure how the design should look.. maybe have a lime green pinstripe that goes on the top tube and on the side have it say Trance X. Also I went out to ride around my block and my chain broke! The front derailleur was on the smallest ring and I was trying to shift to second but it wasn't working... so I left the front derailleur on the smallest gear and shifted the rear derailleur to the smallest gear. Did my chain break because of this? Anyways here are the pics.

Look up MTBR member David C for custom stickers. He is a graphic designer and would help you come up with something, I think for pretty cheap.

Putting your chain in the small/small combo puts the most lateral stress on your chain and generally should be avoided. But I've never heard of a chain breaking because of that. If something was about to break anyway, that could have pushed it over the edge. If you couldn't shift on the front, that sounds like you are having some issues anyway. I noticed front shifting gets much worse when the chain needs lube. How did it break? Pin pop out? Plates twisted?

Do you think the chain is repairable?

if you replace the broken link, sure. the question is - if the chain did in fact break from cross chaining what lifespan does it have left anyway? measure it out and determine the amount of stretch, could be time for a new one anyway.

    Exactly.
Also, if you make it one link shorter you have to make sure its still long enough to fit the big big combo (unless you can guarantee you will never use that combo).

For the wear, stretch out the chain and put the zero mark of a 12 inch ruler on the center of a pin. The 12" mark should also line up on the center of a pin, on a brand new chain. If the pin center is an 1/8th inch or more away from the 12 mark, throw it away.

The XT rims and the white Fox fork look extremely good with the black X2 frame.

Thanks! She started as a X3 and I've pretty much upgraded everything... white wasn't my first choice for Fork color I wanted a black fork, but when shopping on CL you can't be too picky!

How do you find the pikes? Swapping to 140mm forks ( Thors in my case) worked well for me.

It works great. It's not a true Pike though, it's actually Revelation 426 uppers with Pike lowers (swapped them for the 20mm axle). It also has BlackBox MoCo and rebound
Travel is set at around 130 mm.

Swapping a 140 fork with a thru axle and a 50mm stem did wonders for my trance. Completely new bike and has made me shy away from getting an Enduro or a Nomad at this time. Also did the rear shock swap for a RP23 7.5X2.0 with the bearing upgrade.

It would be a little steep and short on travel. Sell it and get a 120mm fork.

Good point, 100 mm forks will work well on the trance. When I@set theforks on my trance x to 100mm for climbing it becomes very twitchy and would be no good in that configuration for descending.

    Hi guys

I'm new here (1st post) and found this thread by accident, but have a few Qs re my trance-x

I managed to get a 2010 trance-x. Basically its been built with deore lx gruppo/brakes, race face finishing kit (70mm stem, 590mm riser bars), fox rp23BV shock and reba SL forks. I removed the spacer from the forks to move them up to 115mm, but I think they are maybe leaking or something as I can only get around 100mm travel at best (and damper is working but won't adjust).

The question I have is that I'm thinking of u/g the forks and have seen some revelation rlt's for a good price (£300). They are 140mm travel, compared to the 115 (or 100!) rebas I've got already. I realise the 140s will slacken the head angle, which slows steering, makes climbing worse, raises bb height (yay!) etc, but overall is this a good move or would I be better looking for some 120mm or 130mm forks (or getting rebas sorted?). Or u-turns (do people actually use this feature?). How much realisticaly will the increase affect handling? I'm mainly riding trails and xc (gisburn, grisedale, whinlatter etc)

Also, is there anything else I should be loooking to upgrade? I'm relatively new to mtbing after a lifetime roading (with a brief flirt with with a zaskar in the mid 90s), so not really up to speed on modern technology

    cheers

ps I'll try to get some photos up at some point...

well your bike org came with 120mm forks, and alot of people (including myself) run 140mm on their trance x's. It's a no brainer if you can afford the Rev 140rlt go for it. As for the rest of the parts replace them as they brake. And this is the Trance X pic thread so post it up.

Is it safe to say the highest travel allowed on a Trance X is 140mm?

On the fork? I think a few people here run their revs at 150mm.

@ xixang. a 140mm fork was one of the best upgrades I did on my bike. Do be aware that you might need a new front wheel that can accomodate a thruaxle.

    ...and get some wider bars!
