No, its a KS i950 with the blue colour kit and remote - which i've had for just under a year now. It has worked flawlessly despite a very wet and muddy winter - didnt even get stiff on snow rides - have only needed to replace the remote cable twice.

Simple to strip down - done that twice too, and even easier to lube up, every month or after some very wet rides.

No play has developed and there's no wear on the coating

Certainly one of the best investment i've made components wise over the last 23 years of my riding history

    2010 Trance X2.

The bike is stock except a few components:

    Ergon grips
    Bontrager saddle
    Thomson seatpost
    Converted to tubeless
"Pushed" shock - makes a big difference in ride quality for a 210lb rider.

Love the bike! Lot's O Fun!!

    Smile Trance X1 2010

I thought I'd share a few action shots of my Trance X1 ... I've had this bike for about a year now, such a reliable bike!! I haven't had to replace a single thing on it yet, hence it's pretty much stock except for the grips and pedals. I have just installed a RockShox Reverb seatpost this week but I haven't got any photos of it on the bike yet.

    Hey guys.

Recently I saw an ad where this guy sells a Trance X3 '08 model. I've searched the internet and every pic I found is not like the one this guy has posted and I don't know if his bike is indeed '08 model or not... Anybody could help me out here?

    Thanks!

I bought my X2 bought new in '08 and have made a bunch of upgrades, I love this thing. It serves the purpose of xc climber, shuttle laps, multi-day bikepacking trips, and everyday trail foolishness. It doesn't prefer rowdy resort style dh

most recently have been brakes, wheels, short stem/wide bars, revalation 150 fork with 20mm axle, pushed rear float. It's fast

Z3RatuL - I have that exact bike. It's a 2009 trance x4. I bought mine new a few months ago for $1050. I feel like it was a great deal. He bike has been rock solid and not missed a beat in the first 500 or miles of it's life. It is a bottom line full suspension bike but does exactly what it is supposed to. Its the same frame used on up through the trance X1 with lesser components. If it's used and in good shape, I'd expect to pay $600 or less for it. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

2012 Trance X4 my bud bought one on my recommendation...The color scheme is a flat silver with blue and blue anodized pieces. The only differences I saw compared to my 2011 Trance X4 are as follows...The front fork is now a Rockshox TK 32 (thats all it says) opposed to the Tora TK on mine. The front end does feel lighter in comparison to mine. It now comes with Avid Elixer 1 Hydraulic Brakes opposed to the Shimano M445's on mine. Instead of Kenda Nevegal's it now has Maxxis Ardent's. The rear Giant shock seems to be updated as well well atleast the graphics are. Those are the only differences i saw.

Can someone post these pictures for me? My computer wont let me post pictures for some reason. Have not been able to ride much. I have changed some prts for better fit and made it a 1x10. I changed the pedals, Chain rings. I'm a sucker for matching parts so the stem was changed. I hated the SDG seat so I went back to the WTB Silverado. The SDG made me feel pushed forward. I can run the straight seat post now. http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/DSCN0208.jpg

Not dated at all... but I guess I'm biased

Regarding the 3-5' drops most of the 3' drops were flat on the other side, yes the 5' drops had a transition to a downhill so not necessarily a pure drop off.

    Should I go raw aluminum?

    Hey all,

I've had this bike for 3 days now and I'm debating whether I should go raw aluminum. I don't really like the color scheme on the bike. Right now the paint is in pretty good condition. I was wondering will it hurt the resale value if I went bare aluminum?

(just recently) here is what else it can do:

riding the trance made me realize to keep it. 09 trance xo with the usual upgrades- looking forward to a new fork and wheelset in the future.

No you shouldn't. It's brand new, enjoy it how it is. And yeah it probably would hurt resale value. If you are thinking about selling it soon, your best best is to have it look just like the one's on the showroom floor.

There's nothing wrong with raw aluminum. I like it but not everyone does. Use that as an option after a couple of years when you are bored with what you've got and the paint is beat up. stripping the paint makes an old bike seem new, but doesn't add much to a new bike. In the mean time, if you want a different look, think about adding some color with anodized parts or something. I think the bike looks fine as it is.

I just bought some Odi / Troy Lee Designs Lock On Grips for my trance x. The grip color is red. Next I'm probably going to get pedals next (reds platform pedals). I'll update this post with a pic when my grips come in

    Also,

axarob44's I know you bought the trance x frameset but do you know if I can paint the maestro suspension part red like how yours is green?

Some really nice looking bikes. The Paint jobs seem to be a bit hit and miss with the giants form year to year and model to model.

I am looking at getting into the sport. So far a giant trance x3 is what I am thinking. I am not a huge fan of the 2011 paint scheme for it though.

Really love the metal look ones. The Black frame with red link looks ace also. The white trance X4 with red and black is damn cool to.

dangerzone. I would think you could paint the links. If you prepped the links with a good bead blast or some other media blast to give a rougher texture so the paint (or powder coat, I would have it powder coated) has a good surface to adhere to. Prep, prep, prep. That's the key to a strong, long lasting finish.

I had a shotgun bead blasted a couple months ago. Had a local wheel/tire garage do it all for $20.00.I don't know how much for the powder coat, I've had things coated before and I seem to remember it didn't cost too much. If you decide to use paint there is a product called duracoat, it's used to coat firearms. If you prep the parts really well, Duracoat is a very tough coating.

I'm sorry I would post links but can't for some reason.

Certainly one of the best investment i've made components wise over the last 23 years of my riding history
Where did you find the blue kit from? I've been trying to find it, but had no luck!

Here's my 2011 Trance X1. Bought the frame and fork and built it up with SRAM XX stuff for my cross-country needs. The sketchy bathroom scale seems to indicate 23 or 24 lbs. I was wondering if the SRAM XX q156 cranks would fit, and they do in case you are wondering too. Frame size is large.

Mud gets thrown up and forward by the tyre, and then because of your forward motion, you ride into it. The Neoguard catches it, and keeps the worst of the mud out of your face. Not as much coverage as a full mud guard, but it gets the worst stuff, and looks much prettier!

    Update...

A few new lighter (but still strong and trail/all mountain) parts now bring it down to 24.7lbs with a dropper post and a 150mm fork.

    New grips/Painted a few parts..

I plan to add some custom vinyl die-cut stickers but I'm not sure how the design should look.. maybe have a lime green pinstripe that goes on the top tube and on the side have it say Trance X. Also I went out to ride around my block and my chain broke! The front derailleur was on the smallest ring and I was trying to shift to second but it wasn't working... so I left the front derailleur on the smallest gear and shifted the rear derailleur to the smallest gear. Did my chain break because of this? Anyways here are the pics.

Look up MTBR member David C for custom stickers. He is a graphic designer and would help you come up with something, I think for pretty cheap.

Putting your chain in the small/small combo puts the most lateral stress on your chain and generally should be avoided. But I've never heard of a chain breaking because of that. If something was about to break anyway, that could have pushed it over the edge. If you couldn't shift on the front, that sounds like you are having some issues anyway. I noticed front shifting gets much worse when the chain needs lube. How did it break? Pin pop out? Plates twisted?

if you replace the broken link, sure. the question is - if the chain did in fact break from cross chaining what lifespan does it have left anyway? measure it out and determine the amount of stretch, could be time for a new one anyway.

    Exactly.
Also, if you make it one link shorter you have to make sure its still long enough to fit the big big combo (unless you can guarantee you will never use that combo).

For the wear, stretch out the chain and put the zero mark of a 12 inch ruler on the center of a pin. The 12" mark should also line up on the center of a pin, on a brand new chain. If the pin center is an 1/8th inch or more away from the 12 mark, throw it away.

Thanks! She started as a X3 and I've pretty much upgraded everything... white wasn't my first choice for Fork color I wanted a black fork, but when shopping on CL you can't be too picky!

How do you find the pikes? Swapping to 140mm forks ( Thors in my case) worked well for me.

It works great. It's not a true Pike though, it's actually Revelation 426 uppers with Pike lowers (swapped them for the 20mm axle). It also has BlackBox MoCo and rebound
Travel is set at around 130 mm.

Swapping a 140 fork with a thru axle and a 50mm stem did wonders for my trance. Completely new bike and has made me shy away from getting an Enduro or a Nomad at this time. Also did the rear shock swap for a RP23 7.5X2.0 with the bearing upgrade.

It would be a little steep and short on travel. Sell it and get a 120mm fork.

Good point, 100 mm forks will work well on the trance. When I@set theforks on my trance x to 100mm for climbing it becomes very twitchy and would be no good in that configuration for descending.

    Hi guys

I'm new here (1st post) and found this thread by accident, but have a few Qs re my trance-x

I managed to get a 2010 trance-x. Basically its been built with deore lx gruppo/brakes, race face finishing kit (70mm stem, 590mm riser bars), fox rp23BV shock and reba SL forks. I removed the spacer from the forks to move them up to 115mm, but I think they are maybe leaking or something as I can only get around 100mm travel at best (and damper is working but won't adjust).

The question I have is that I'm thinking of u/g the forks and have seen some revelation rlt's for a good price (£300). They are 140mm travel, compared to the 115 (or 100!) rebas I've got already. I realise the 140s will slacken the head angle, which slows steering, makes climbing worse, raises bb height (yay!) etc, but overall is this a good move or would I be better looking for some 120mm or 130mm forks (or getting rebas sorted?). Or u-turns (do people actually use this feature?). How much realisticaly will the increase affect handling? I'm mainly riding trails and xc (gisburn, grisedale, whinlatter etc)

Also, is there anything else I should be loooking to upgrade? I'm relatively new to mtbing after a lifetime roading (with a brief flirt with with a zaskar in the mid 90s), so not really up to speed on modern technology

    cheers

ps I'll try to get some photos up at some point...

well your bike org came with 120mm forks, and alot of people (including myself) run 140mm on their trance x's. It's a no brainer if you can afford the Rev 140rlt go for it. As for the rest of the parts replace them as they brake. And this is the Trance X pic thread so post it up.

Is it safe to say the highest travel allowed on a Trance X is 140mm?

On the fork? I think a few people here run their revs at 150mm.

@ xixang. a 140mm fork was one of the best upgrades I did on my bike. Do be aware that you might need a new front wheel that can accomodate a thruaxle.
