Trance X 29er Caught in Action???

So I happened upon this video recently shot promoting the Oregon Enduro Series. Adam Craig looks to be riding something new - looks to be a 29er, initially I thought it was the Anthem X 29er. But then I noticed in a few of the shots that it looked to be something different than anything in the current lineup.

The frame is much more curvy than anything they have now, a bit like the 2008-2010 Trance X in a way. Looks to be aluminum also...

The video is here. Pause at 4:51 to get a really good look, but there are shots at other points in the video as well....

What do you guys think? Am I on the right track, are we seeing a sneak peek here?

The rear shock frame design certainly looks different. J:

Looks like the shock link is bigger than on the AX29, also the seat tube has a bigger bend (to accomodate the larger travel of the rear triangle?). Perhaps just an optical illusion...

Well we can speculate as to what it is exactly, but we can rest assured that it is indeed something new. Word is we'll learn all about it very soon, possibly next week - my bet is still a wagon wheeled Trance.

    Very interesting......

I'm not overly excited about 29" bikes but a 29" Trance at least gets my attention. Much more than the Anthem 29 which always struck me as too much of a compromise for my tastes.

I'm pretty sure it's not an Anthem - this has a curvier seat tube and a curved top tube along with a seemingly larger rear triangle and Maestro linkage. A pretty reliable source indicates that we'll learn about this bike as early as next week, which in itself indicates that it's something new. But I could be wrong...we shall see.

I'm not too sure it is.

Head tube area, curved top tube and curved seat tube are all quite different from the Anthem Advanced.

I had heard a few weeks ago there will be an aluminium 29er Trance for 2013 - looks like this could be a prototype.

It's def not the anthem carbon 29er frame looks way different.

As for 650b your dreaming ! Giant have been slow on the uptake of 29er long travel dual suspensions. I'm tipping it will be 2 or 3 more seasons before giant does any MTB 650b stuff. And I only think it will happen if they keep getting more and more popular. Just my opinion though

I'm with you guys - the question isn't whether it's an Anthem or something new, the question is what is this a prototype of?

When it comes pretty much straight from the horses mouth that we'll learn all about this bike next week, it kind of confirms that something new is a coming - at the very least it's not a denial that this was something new.

I think the not Anthem 29er was doing pretty well up front in the hands of AC, I believe he won the event

I think what throws off the looks on this particular bike is the dropper post combined with the black frame - makes the seat tube look way long. I'm sure when it hits production it'll look sweet. I too like the curved top tube. Definitely shreds though - Adam Craig took this beast to a win this weekend in its first Enduro, and there weren't exactly slouches behind him...

Yeah, I'm betting the production bike will look much better for sure. And as stated, this one isn't that bad, it's more so the way it's presented here. I bet the cost won't look too poorly, haha! Excited to see if this is indeed the Trance 29er, the geometry numbers, and projected release date, assuming we'll get all of that anytime soon. I'm looking at the Yeti SB 95, Tallboy LT/LTC and the (hopefully) upcoming Trance X 29er. Great time to be a mountain biker.

Good to see Giant getting on board with the internal cabling and especially the re-routing of the derailer cable and rear brake hose away from the rear shock.

I think that's the woman's Anthem in that pic, if I'm not mistaken the Anthem 29er W was launched alongside of the Anthem Advanced 29er. But here's another teaser of what we by now can safely assume will be the Trance X 29er:

here's another pic, from Adam Craig's blog:
    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oFdRs-kYsJ...nogaPodium.jpg

and here the words direct from Adam's blog:

"I had the extra layer of advantage/uncertainty/pressure that came with riding this sweet new bike Iíve been working on for nearly a year with Giant for the first time in public. It has big wheels, biggish shocks and does great wheelies and skids. Plus, itís the fastest color other than white. Black. Seemed like a good choice for racing on the good parts, but you know how it goes, if you win itís because of the bike, if you lose, well, that bike sucks.

I won. By a decent margin (luckily, because a rookie mistake involving basic bike maintenance starting stage 4 nearly cost me the farm.) Whew, the bike IS good. "

Looks better in that picture but hope the frames a lot beefier when it hits the shelves. That looks like a flexy frame. I'm riding one now, an 09 Trance X. That prototype looks worse.

This bike should've been released months ago... but... I'm still holding off on buying a TB LTc, until I see what this Tx29er is going to bring.

I think August is when they're releasing info on it judging by the teasers.

Probably because of the toptube, but I think that's to accommodate the larger wheels while keeping the standover height reasonable. I do believe it's a Trance though. It would make sense as a 29er, plus someone mentioned this so I looked and sure enough it was there - on the first teaser video where there is the shot of the rear shock, it says "prototype Trance X".

    Better late than never.

I was a big fan of the Maestro suspension when I rode a 2008 Trance X. I am pretty happy with my Altitude 29er, but am looking forward to test riding one of these when they come out.

Thanks for the info, peeps. + reps on me.

Lower head tube and a 650B front wheel or they are just wasting there time with a very out dated frame geometry.

let's say I got some insight ... there seems no 650 for 2013, at least in Anthem and Trance.

Giant is good in such way that you do not feel like you loose tpo much with last year model. Changes are subtle an well thought.

I agree! One thing I did notice is that the closeups in the video are probably an earlier version than the one that got raced in Oregon lately, as the internal cable routing isn't on the one in the teaser.

Why would they run the hydro brake line under the bb. Mine gets bashed already. Might have to reroute like the normal trance lines go if they dont do internal on that too like the rear der cable.

More 'official' details on Bike Radar:
Giant Releases Details On New Trance X 29er - BikeRadar

They are claiming internal routing for rear brake and a new line of "TRX" (rather than XC) wheels on all three models.

So maybe the sloppy routing (and XC wheels) on the photos is due to a prototype rushed for the shoot schedule?

Why can't Giant release the bike in black like Adam Craig's prototype model, those bikes look like ice cream trucks. Plus there's no through axle at the back.

On paper, it really seems that Giant really nailed geometry and specs.

Altough this is subjective, but I also really like new color sheme.

Unlike a lot of linkage style rear ends the Maestro uses a solid rear triangle. Triangles are pretty much the most solid of structural shapes and the fact that there is no linkage back there like an FSR or Faux Bar suspension designs means each side of the swing arm can't really move independently of the other anyway. Basically, the Maestro design doesn't really need a thru-axle like many others do. Not a biggie.

    120mm fork?

I'd like to see min 130mm but 140mm fork would be the best.

You might be right about the rear through axle but you know Giant will eventually release the bikes with a through axle in the rear. Why not do it now and be done with it.

Have to agree, but then again I WON'T ever ride a bike with 26" wheels again, see no reason wit what's out in 29ers now for my cahones and what/how I like riding. Did decide to mess with some 650Bs though and here's my '07 Trance setup as it should be, just the old 38mm offset of that old Reba it doesn't steer no where near as nice as my Banshee Prime.

to put more heat ... roumor is that 140-120mm fork is coming down the line to X1 26". But based on experience with Anthem x29 i would take 29er.

I might choose the 29er. I want one bike for everything from having fun in town to trails.

I wish they would go back to the anodized look. My '08 Trance X0 still looks fantastic.

I love my 2009 trance and am eager to think about a 29er upgrade. I've been looking at the pics of the trance 29er and notice the crankset looks very far forward in relation to the seat. I'm 6'2" and ride a large with a high seat (I like the manuverabiliy). A high seat with that seat tube angle would increase the forward feel.

Is that typical for a 29er? I wonder how it would feel...?

    More details

Introducing Giantís New Trance X 29 - Bike Rumor

Really enjoy riding my Anthem X29 and looking forward to test riding the Trance X29 when they're out. Very interested to see how the shorter chainstay, slacker head angle and slighty longer travel feels to ride compared to the AX29.

Same situation here.Curious about the Trance and love my Anthem

Remember the Anthem will always be around 0.5lb lighter than the Trance.

    According to the link:

"The launch of the Trance X also coincides with Giantís launch of their new 29″ trail wheels, the P-TRX 29er 1. P-TRX 29 1s will be standard equipment on the Trance X 0 and feature 28mm wide G69 tubeless ready alloy rims for a total weight of 1,795g per pair."

Wow! This IMO puts Giant at the head of the game... My Pacenti TL28's are 28mm and weigh 1900 grams with I9's, and these are 100grams lighter?!
I do all my own stunts, but never intentionally...

You guys would have seen this by now First Look: Giant's All-New 2013 Trance X 29er - Features - Vital MTB

If you look at the bike at the end of the Video you will see its running Revelations, does that mean this bike would run sweet with a 140mm Fork just like the 26" version?

I am really excited by this new bike and have been eagerly waiting for production pics since I heard about it...definately #1 on my shortlist as my next bike, but I gotta say the seat tube angle and the head tube angle really look like they clash in the pics...the seat tube is so slack and the head tube looks steep in comparison....looks like the bastard offspring of a anthem and a reign! Which I guess is what it is meant to be! just looks funny is all...can't wait to ride one!

Gah, I love it, How could i justify this one over the Anthem for mostly XC/Marathon training/races?

    What would the downside be?

I thought head angle is 69, seat tube angle is 73. Must be the effective seat tube angle though, the S curve in the seat tube makes it look slacker than the head tube...

The exaggerated lean angle to the upper portion of the seat tube is likely to be a result of the combined effect of the shortening of the chainstay (as much as practical), the need for appropriate clearance between the main frame and the rear suspension triangle as the Maestro suspension moves through its full travel, whilst also maintaining the desired effective top tube length & effective seat tube angle.

In aiming to shorten the chainstay, Giant moved the rear suspension triangle support brace from in front of the rear wheel (as on the 26" Trance) and relocated it to the side of the wheel and over the rear linkage pivot. The result being that they could move the rear wheel further forward and reduce the chainstay length.

This is all supposed to give the Trance 29er a more 'lively' feel to the ride and that's part of the reason why I am keen to throw a leg over one and compare it to my AX29.

Looks like retail brochure from Giant for the 2013 Trance X 29er:

    http://www.derbybicyclecenter.com/PD...nce_X_29er.pdf

Mostly of the same info and pics as previous links, except with full geometry specs.

Only thing missing now is pricing.

Looking forward to seeing pricing on these... X0 at or just under 4k and X1 in the high 2's to low 3's would seem like a solid bet just basing on other stuff they currently have...

Anyone know when pricing will be out?
