I've been following since I caught glimpse of the prototype - looking forward to this bike as this may be in the running to replace my beloved 2008 Trance X1. The production color schemes don't do much for me, but something about Giants always looks better in person than the factory photos so I'll reserve judgement. Liking the spec overall though (especially full xt on the X0), wondering what the pricing will be. Thinking about 4k for the X0 msrp? Curious too what they'll weigh in at. Frame seems pretty light so mid 26 lbs. range might not be unrealistic for the X0 I would think...

Never really considered a 29er 'till I rented an Anthem X 29er. Now I'm really looking forward to getting on this bike to test it out.

X0 looks nice. I think an X2 and throw away the Fork and wheels will be my affordable choice. Just hope they don't have some ridiculous mushy shock tune like they used on the 26" 2011 Trance x. Otherwise I'll be throwing that out as well.

Not a fan of that crazy looking seat tube and the angle on it. Like the paint jobs they have chosen though - not doubt they will be typical Giant bang for a buck.

anyone gonna be trading their 29er Anthem for one of these? I haven't ridden the Anthem yet but I was very interested in one before I saw this. The Trance 29er seems like a better fit (at least on paper) for me but I wonder if anybody is willing to jump the Anthem ship onto the Trance?

I was looking at the anthem 29er until I saw this. I have an 09 anthem x1 26er with a 120mm fork on it at the momnt...was gonna get the 29er anthem and through a 120mm fork on that, but now will likely get the trance, but its a tough call. Have ridden the 29er anthem before, so looking forward to the test ride on this.

    major dislikes:

no availability of 142 spacing on rear swingarm...not because it needs to be stiffer, but because some people have invested in these wheelsets!

needed to have a 34mm Fox fork on at least one of the models!

IMHO...of course, but I will not be investing one this year.

Anyone else think the seat tube angle looks silly slack? Going to be a nightmare to setup for someone with long legs and a shorter reach.

Interesting point...I personally have a problem keeping weight over the front and had to size down with longer stem on my 29'ers...I wonder how the feel is on this bike...I would love to try one as I used to have a Trance...

I'm quite intrested in one of these too. I work at a Trek and Giant dealer and am really struggling with my choice of trail/super d bike. This with a 34 might work ok but it just looks so silly in the pictures!
It also looks a bit like it has an angle set in back to front in the big picture at the top of the page. Might just be my eyes playing tricks on me though.

I am if I sell my Anthem

    Yeah I think so
IF I decide to sell my Anthem and just ride a 29er as my all around trail/all mtn bike, I'll go for the TranceX 29.
My Anthem is fun, but All the info points to the TranceX being a much better fit for more aggressive trail riding and actually a more playful bike in the twisties and corners (compact rear triangle, slaker head angle).

I think the seat tube looks kinda cool actually, and there looks to be a good amount of seat post drop which is good for slammin that thing when necessary!

I want to see more pictures of the "single spar". I think other "DWish" designs use a single spar? Just wondering how stiff the overall package will be.

i rode the anthem 29er foe the first time this week and I was really impressed with the overall package. The biggest problem I had with it was the super long wheelbase. It was really cumbersome around tight switchbacks. That being said, it was really stable pointed down. I'm hoping the shorter wheelbase on the new Trance will be what I'm looking for but either way I really liked the Anthem. Still, I think I'm personally gonna have to ride the 29er Trance before I buy anything.

Giant Australia have anounced through their Facebbok page that 2013 models are due for their official release mid August 2012 and will be updated on the Australian website soon after.

Not sure if this release date is also applicable to other parts of the world.

My LBS owner is up in Vail Colorado today riding it at some demo event. He told me they will give availability info there. I already sold my Jet9 to pick one up. Hope it meets expectations.

I don't know, as far as the seat tube goes, I think you have to be careful not to be mislead by the angle. Regardless of the slackness doesn't it really come down to the position of the seat in relation to the wheels and/or the bottom bracket, and as far as that goes, it's not much different than the Anthem.

I have a 2011 Trance X2... one of the things I love about my bike is its versatility... I can pedal all day and climb anything.... But it really shines when I wanna throw a whip over a roller, hit a good drop, lean in berms, hop a huge log, and see how high I can rise off a kicker... Dont know that a 29r is capable of that versatility..

Giant Australia have something up their sleeve with the TX29 colourways. Black with blue writing in the top right hand corner.

I got to ride one today and I have to say I was very impressed. I've been riding longer travel 29ers for the last year and a half and have owned the Turner Sultan and Yeti SB95 and ridden the Santa Cruz Tallboy LTc quite a bit and have one good ride on the Scott Genius 900 so I feel like I have a good feel for some of the better long travel 29ers out there.

The Giant just plain rips. It's the most maneuverable of the bikes I've ridden. Super easy to throw around, also easily the most plush. There were a couple times when I came in very hot into some pretty good stutter bumps and it soaked up everything with no hint of stiffening under braking. It pedaled very well up hill too. Really for the money it's just plain incredible and even taking the value out of the equation it holds it own with any bike I've ridden. I love it and would happily trade my current bike for it.

I should be able to get pictures tomorrow.

$4200, $2750, and $1975 if I remember right although many shops will have them for a bit less. There could be some in shops before the end of the month.

Zach - have you ridden the Anthem 29? I have one and my ONLY complaint is that theres just not enough travel and a wee bit too xc geo for my riding and trails in CO - that said its a freakin awesome ride but your comments on the new Trance - and being the first ride report I've seen - would tell me its exactly what I need - errrrr want!!

Will be riding many of the same bikes for comparison - cant wait to throw a leg over

I rode the Anthem 29er for most of last year. I really liked the bike but it was a little nervous for my style. The Trance 29 might only have 20mm more travel but feels like more and the geometry is so much better for aggressive trail riding that I'm sure when many skeptics ride it it will absolutely stun them. Get the Trance, you won't regret it.

Prices look very sharp. I would be interested to know if a Trance could replace my Anthem X29 for Xc and endurance racing as well as being a great bike for ttrail riding. I currently own an Anthem X29 and a Trance X (26") and it would be great to have just one bike.

Great info Just Zach. I just called my LBS and found out that the owner is at this Colorado event.

Going to pull the trigger on this bike. Sounds like Giant really did their homework and dialed it in. Glad I waited for this long legged 29er.

Hum....to keep the Reign or not - that is the question!

$1500 seems like a steep premium for the 0 over the 1, I could see $1k being resonable for the step up in components.

Also the aluminum Trance X 0 (26er) is listed for ~$3600 (in the markets it is avaiable), other than the wheels, the spec is prety much the same (full XT). Am I missing some other big upgrade?

Are you sure you have the price right on the 0?

Does the 0 have the new carbon rims or something?
If so, then the sharp increase would be justified.

Zach, thanks again, great info. Definitely looking forward to seeing the bike in person and trying one out, just might be the perfect replacement for my 2008 TX1.

sh0rty, as far as the price don't forget the dropper post and the new TRX "trail" wheel set. I know its a different bike, but the Reign 0 is probably also a good comparison - with full XT it sits right at 4k.

I gotta say that the X0 looks awful tempting with the full XT and the new wheel set, but ultimately the X1 looks like the more realistic value proposition - leaves money in the bank for upgrades!

What GT states - looks like the value in the 1 might be too good.

I have a near new set of Arch Ex/Hope pro 2 evo on my Anthem - and 2012 xt breaks - all of which could be difference makers

the only thing i see that "might" be of interest is the FIT cartridge in the fork... but for that kind of money - the 1 still looks to be the deal

According to Bike Radar Article they are "28mm-wide, tubeless-ready aluminum rims" with "Claimed weight for the set is 1,795g", not bad, but not Carbon.

Given the same (in-house OEM) dropper is on the $2750 spec'ed "1" as well, that can't explain the price premium. The Reign X 0 is still $200 less and has a Talas fork.

Maybe they are the most amaizing 1,795g tubeless ready aluminum rims ever... maybe.

On the other hand, the "1" seems like an amaizing 'bang-for-the-buck' spec!

I agree with you sh0rty, I was just speculating as to why. The 0 doesn't seem to be nearly the bang for the buck. With the 1 it seems like you get 90% of the bike for 65% of the price - that is if these are in fact going to be the price points. The Anthem X1 29er is specced similar to the Trance X1 29er, yet is a few hundred more without a dropper post...

Given that, if the Trance price is really 2750, it's a no brainer. Heck, my 2008 Trance X1's msrp I believe was 2400 at the time, in 2008 money!

It does look like quite a big step up in price to the TX-0.

Could that actually be the price for TX-00 model shown in the Flickr photo gallery, with the TX-0 model in between the $2,750 & $4,200?

If your local Giant dealer is a fairly big dealer they should have info as soon as tomorrow. There are two Trance 26's for 2013 in the USA, 3 Reigns, and 2 Reign X's. The Reign X is unchanged as is the Trance 26 but the Reign now is chain guide compatible. All the colors are really good. The Reigns still come with 32mm forks and the Reign X now has a 34.

2013's are up on the US site this morning

    Trance X 29er 0 (2013) - Bikes | Giant Bicycles | United States

JustZach, looks like you where bang-on that TX0 price... unfortunately. The mysterious TX00 spec is nowhere to be seen. (only certain markets I guess?)

2013's are not up on the Giant Canada site yet, will be interested to see pricing here. For 2012 Giant MSRP for Canada was bit lower than US for many models... the ONLY manufacturer where I have seen that recently.

Interested to see a Trance X1 29er in person, see how that colorful paint really looks, will have to stop by the LBS on the weekend. Thinking it might match up nicely with the gaudy graphics on the SunRIngle Chargers. ...an TX1 29er with some (end of season discount) Charger Experts might make a nice setup for right around $3k.

They get the same graphics treatment as the 29er's tho. (I much preferred the 2012 graphics)

Im with ya! Cant wait to see this bike in person, but even more - give er a run on some local trails.

Interesting to compare the geometry with my Anthem 29er - looks like a real win in the "standover" dept - something I have very little of now with my short 29.5" inseam... looks like a solid 4.5" gain in that dept -

The X0 price seems pretty high!

Wish they offered the frameset in the white/silver scheme rather than the dark grey/yellow.

JustZach, looks like you where bang-on that TX0 price... unfortunately. The mysterious TX00 spec is nowhere to be seen. (only certain markets I guess?)

    sh0rty :P
It seems as though Australia may be one of the markets to also get the TX29-00 model.

Holy sh*t, are those standover heights correct? Seem amazingly low per sizing.

Even a shorT@ss like me could rde that, if only the 29ers could turn corners.
Think I'll stick with my 2012 Trance X0 for maneuverability.

I really hope the above prices are correct for $AUD.
After seeing the U.S. pricing for the X0 I converted to $AUD and it came in a bit above what I had budgeted. My budget up until now was based on the Australian 2012 Trance X 26 pricing.

Just put my deposit down on a Trance x29. My LBS had ordered some right after the big press launch in Colorado. The owner said he rode everything there on the TX29 and loved it. He gave me a great deal on the "0" so I stepped up to the pump. He says late August, early Sept. Now the painful wait begins. I was ready to go with the X1 for the price, but with the discount and wanting the full XT, and better wheels, it was worth it to me.

    2013 Giant Trance X 29er 0 ? First Ride Review - BikeRadar

Interesting note about the sizes in it. I'm still fairly sure a small would fit me (5'6") but those between sizes might want to take note.

I usually fall in that in between size at 5'11', and they said AC, at the same height, was using a medium. I almost always go Large... definitely not pre-ordering after reading that. You may have just saved me some dough... Thanks....

Interesting article. So they're predicting a 27.5 Trance, and a carbon Tx 29 for 2014.... hmmmm, almost makes me want to wait a year, but just almost.

Carbon Trance is a foregone conclusion... but IMO the 27.5 Trance is complete speculation. I'm not sure it makes sense to offer three wheel sizes on the 120mm platform. (unless they drop the other two for the compromize size?)

A 27.5" Reign on the other hand... longer travel and (slightly) bigger wheels... that could be interesting. (see the recent reviews on the 2013 Norco "Killer B" bikes to see how interesting it coule be) ;-)

for anyone who has ridden one, do they run "long" in the top tube? the XS is 21.7 which is PERFECT for my short torso, however, looking at that super slack seat tube, would it sit too far back? or is the 21.7 measurment taking into account the slack seat tube? i'm really looking at this bike for next year, but i typically ride an XS-S 26er. i sat on the small anthemX and it fit me, but the angles are steeper on that bike. I also see that its an odd size head tube, so there may not be many good stem choices, and i run a very short stem.

thanks! (I did read that people were scooting the saddle forward to get more weight up front)

The 26" TX is actually closer to 130mm travel. I'd like to see them tweek it up to 140 with the 650B.

In keeping with market trends I suspect the Reign will be their first 650B though.
Pity though I think 650B is better suited as 140mm trail platform. I don't like 650B on slacker AM bikes. Kills the feel and you don't need the extra stability or rollover of the bigger wheels.

Turner has got it right with the new Burner. Others have got it wrong and are just trying to plug a market that the 29er can't fill.

I'm thinking some time this week could be decision time on the Trance X 29er for me.

I had decided on the 29er 0 until I became aware that here in Australia we would have the option of the 00 as well. A few weeks extra of on call work will cover the cost difference so price isn't a big issue. Anyone think the $900 AUD price difference is worth choosing the 00 over the 0 ? (hopefully less if I can get a discount off RRP).

    Trance X 29er 00 (2013) - Bikes | Giant Bicycles | Australia

To give some background, I'm back into mountain biking in a big way. My partner has been into mountain biking almost as long as me and she has just upgraded to a Cube AMS WLS Pro. We live very close to the You Yangs MTB Park and try to get out there every weekend. Probably more often once winter ends. My partner likes to ride the long winding XC trails, green and blue level. I've also been riding some of the more technical blue and black trails with some other family members as well.

Trail Information for the You Yangs Mountain Bike Park

I bought a XTC 29er earlier this year. Now I'm hooked on a 29er as my main bike and can't go back to 26" for anything except downhill. I bought a 2nd hand Glory 1 for that. The XTC will be sold to another family member and the Trance will be my do everything bike. Mainly trail riding but probably some enduro races and maybe even the occasional XC race. My previous bike lasted over 16 years (with repair, upgrades and servicing) so I'm expecting the Trance to last a decent amount of time as well.

In my opinion, Avid anything brakes are worse than Shimano XT brakes, so you lose a bit there on the 00.

    Upgrades on 00:
    - Nicer bars and stem (carbon I believe)

That's really all I see - it comes down to whether you like the Revelation fork and Roxshox rear better than Fox. I think I the RT3 was specced on the Anthem X 0 that I did a demo on last season, and if I recall correctly, it was a bit stiffer on climbing than the Fox Float, but less plush on the descents. I've never ridden the Revelation fork.

Imo the reason to go for the 00 over the 0 would be if you prefer the Sram groupset over Shimano. Its just a pity that it costs $900au more as imo the 2 specs are much the same level.

Still torn between the X0 and X1. What is the difference between forks, exactly?

Never used Sram. How much of a dropoff is this model from xt?

What are the options for going 1x with bashguard? Not trying to be cool, I just really don't need the extra gears/weight. Thanks.

Edit: Not sure about the crank for 1x, since I think those are different BCD than the old 2x with the 26/39, 28/42.

Fork - I'm not sure. Haven't ridden a FIT fork before.

SRAM is fine. You probably won't see any noticeable difference. Crank will be a bit heavier. Brakes are the major thing. I'm getting the 1, and will likely switch to XT brakes. I couldn't really justify the 0 for the extra cost (1500 if you're buying MSRP), since the only upgrade I'd make costs less than 300 (for brakes and rotors, since you can get the XT brakes on sale in several places right now). I'll save the rest for a nice wheelset sometime in the future.

Forgot about the wheelset upgrade on the 0, but it doesn't make it worth it. You can get a much nicer handbuilt wheelset for the price difference.

I just looked at the specs for the 00 vs the 0. I would definitely buy the 0 over the 00 and its not even about money. The XT would by my clear preference. The XT brakes are so progressive, quiet and effective its unbelievable. Avid anything squeals.

It really depends on your shop on the discount, especially on a new model like this. Most probably won't be willing to budge much on them.

Edit: That said, if you find a shop willing to do a discount, you could probably get a bit better discount on the 0, just because the margin is generally a bit higher on more expensive bikes.

Gotcha. Local shop just doesn't seem to be willing to budge at all. I'm still researching so I haven't pushed the issue. Too small of a town for any competition...

Spoke to my LBS the other day, looks like they have already preordered 3 bikes. I asked if anyone had ordered the 0 model and he said no. the Shop said they would probably give me a deal on the 0 model and that it would most likely be in end of October. Now I just need to sell the Covert for my down payment.

    From a preview site:

The Trance X 29er 0 is clothed in a Shimano XT-heavy wardrobe, Fox 32 Float 29 FIT CTD fork and Fox Float CTD rear shock. The bike also sports Giantís new P-TRX 29er 1 wheelset (28 millimeters wide, Tubeless Ready, alloy rims, 1,795 grams).

Sorry - no info on the hubs or anything :\

Don't know if it is true, but local rumor mill is dt Swiss guts. At that weight (if correct). I can only hope it is due to quality parts and not under built parts. I will say, my lbs owner was at the demo in Col. And said guys were thrashing the hell out of the bikes and no one had a wheel issue. They were on the XO.

I believe its the dtswiss 350 which is the economy dt swiss - but still - its a dt swiss -

if so - its what came on my Anthem x29 - no issue with hubs but dinged the crap out of the rim - in a rock garden - still - stayed true and holds a tire just fine

I've just been into my LBS and can pretty much confirm the above. They called their supplier and all stock of the X0 had already been shipped. They were looking at least 6 weeks until more were available.

I ended up pre-ordering an X0 and they may be able to get one redirected from Queensland for me, but I'll still be waiting around 3 weeks. At least they dropped $299 off RRP. I'll try to forget about it now and then it will be a nice surprise when it finally arrives.

Thanks for the feedback people gave here regarding the differences between the X0 and X00. I did a bit more research of my own as well. The 00 seems to be mainly specced the way it is to save weight. The handlebars + stem probably are a 1/3 of the price difference alone. Reviews I've read of the SRAM X0 group set seem to indicate that is meant to compete with XTR but the SRAM stuff is overpriced. My current hardtail 29er had elixir 1 brakes , which I upgraded to elixir 7s. No issues with the Avid brakes for me, but I have heard the squeal / turkey warble on other people's bikes. In short, the 00 isn't worth the price difference to me, I need to lose 5Kg+ of my own weight before even considering installing lighter hardware on a bike.

    New Trance 29er!

I went to my LBS yesterday and BAM! right by the front door was a fresh Trance X1 29er. He said they got it last week. The exact bike I've been waiting for! So today I went back and bought it. I haven't ridden on a trail yet, but so far it feels great. I have a little dirt hill on the back of my one acre, and it's real plush, but handles great. I rode a 2012 Anthem X2 this morning at my local trail and I didn't like the feel of it. I was leaning forward too much. Hard to explain, but it just didn't feel right. The Trance feels "right" so far. BTW, I'm 6'-0" and 200 lbs, and I bought a Medium. The LBS went through their fitting session and said it fits me perfect.

According to my non-scientific scale, my bike weighs 29.5 lbs. That also matches the info in the Pink Bike article, I think.

I got a PM from "Coach417" but I can't reply because the site says I don't have enough posts. Sorry I haven't answered. In short, yes, I got the bike at AJ's. I spent at least an hour talking to Woody (?) Friday evening and then again about an hour on Saturday. (He's the only "older" guy that works there, if you want to find him). If you talk to him he can explain how he looked at fitment for me on this bike. For comparison I also rode a '13 Anthem X 29er in Large and a Specialized Stumpjumper 29er in Large, just around the parking lot. Of those three I felt the most comfortable on the TX, which is a Medium. That's just me, though.
