Anyone know if the Reign 1, 2, 3 share the same frame and shock, with just different components? The Reign 3 could be bought pretty cheaply and the parts sold to defray the expense...
Anyone have any issues with the shock mount on the downtube smashing into things?
It looks like it is very vulnerable to rocks and logs and possibly serious damage as the mount doesn't seem to protected.
Also, is manitou going to have a legitimate (FREE) fix for all the nixons they sent out with the bumper to reduce the travel. I don't think reducing travel on a fork marketed with a certain amount of travel is acceptable. This may make up my mind as to weather I would buy a reign.
Your chainring or crank is going to bash into whatever obstacle LONG before that pivot location, unless you are in quite a pickle, terrain wise. You would have to be quite unlucky to bash that spot, think about whether or not your last bottom bracket (shell) was trashed from collision. I doubt it....
As to the Nixon, all bikes being shipped now have been modified correctly. There are less than 100 or so that need further 're-modification.'., as I understand. Don't worry, the early teething issues seem to have been resolved. Buy the bike in great faith, as it were.
No, I do not work for Giant.

yeah, I wouldn't be too worried about that area at all, that bb/shock cage piece looks to be cnc milled, which I'm sure could take a much bigger hit than say if your downtube came down on the same rock or what ever your worried about, I would be more worried about that than the bb area. The only thing that looks problematic w/ that area is the wide open downtube/shock cage junction, just asking for stuff to get up there.
After numerous rides on my reign with the big ring removed and a FSA Poly bashguard installed. I see no sign of contact on the frame around the shock mount. No paint chipping or anything.I did have concerns as it is a bit forward of the bashguard,so I kept a eye on it. We have a lot of logs on the trails in Cumberland so it would have shown by now. I figured if it is a problem I will Wrap it with a peice of innertube for protection.
