Giant Trance X1 29er: Used 2013 vs New 2014. Looking for input

Hey guys, looks like a new 2014 X1 is $775+tax more than a used 2013. I'm wondering what I should buy.

I put together a list of the differences in specs. Only the changes are shown below and the full lists are in the links below. As of now I'm thinking to wait around for a lightly used 2013 and keep the $775 plus tax....

Do you have a 2013 on the radar that you've seen for that exact amount of difference or are you just hypothesizing?

The 2013 has better spec but only barely and most of it is in the small stuff. One big thing though, the 2013 WILL NOT have a warranty if you don't buy it from a shop.

Looking through ebay and nation wide clist searches 2 grand seems to be the going rate for a 2013 (about 4-5 2013s have been listed at that price or slightly lower). Does that sound high or low to you?

Also, I'm surprised that Giant wend down in specs from '13 to '14

Don't forget Fox did change their forks between '13 and '14 models wereby the CTD fork should work better on the '14 models. Should be considered a big + for the '14 model!

I have a 2013 XO Trance. I am not impressed with the suspension at all. I would get a 2014 and spend the cash. I will have spent that much trying to get my 2013 right with parts, labor and shipping and its already a year old. The CTD 2013 IMHO is junk. Read around and you will read the tears.

I agree. Fox crapped the bed with the '13 CTD stuff. I had CTD shock go south 1 month into riding it and it was sent in for warrantee service. The corresponding '13 Evo fork was okay. Just okay.

The FOX Evolution series forks are garbage. It is not even a REAL FOX. Just a very cheap imitation to sell their name. If it does not have Performance or Factory FOX fork I would not even consider buying.

I bought my 2013 X1 used, yet if I had it to do again I'd probably go new. I really like the bike and consider it a keeper. But I've read here about some frame issues and if it breaks I'm SOL. Honestly for the price difference you mentioned I'd stick with new. If you find one at a better price then maybe its worth the risk (mine was, and I used the savings for upgrades).
    Luck!

When a lifetime warranty is involved then I believe that a new bicycle is the best option especially if you plan to keep it for some years. On the other side you always save money on a used one.

Personally I believe that the best option is to get a last year model with a good discount if possible.
