I should have mentioned... even tho I purchased the small, the Large is technically what fits me at 5' 10" if I were to be riding the Revel 0 on the seat.
Just picked up a Revel 0 on Craigslist this morning (bike had been ridden less than 6 times!). Seems to be a really solid ride, and the Kenda Smallblocks are super plush. A few things will need to be upgraded: stem, bars, grips, headset and pedals, but other than that, it is more than suited for my needs Only gripe is the weight, this thing is a pig! My last ride was a Motobecane 700HT which was significantly lighter, on the upside though, the frame on the Revel 0 feels bomb proof.
I'm looking to buy the Revel 0 as well for my first mountain bike. Gonna go to LBS this week to check it out. Wish it was on sale though since the 2013 models are coming out. I don't like the 2013 Revel 0 29er.
Okay, after 24 hours with the bike, I can attest to the great build quality of the frame, and the weight really doesn't seem to be an issue on the trail. I'm not a fan of the Avid BB5's though, fussy, fussy, fussy. I may have been spoiled by the Tektro Aquila's on my last bike though, they never really needed any tweaking. Also, the Dart 2's are a decent starter fork, but something that you'll most likely want to upgrade after a short time. This is the first MTB I've owned where the geometry is actually comfortable, and it looks pretty sweet too.
I 86'ed the stock grips last night and put on a set of Lizard Skins Northshore locking grips, love 'em, and they are super grippy regardless of how sweaty, dirty etc.
I really liked the paint job on the Revel 0, that flat black just looks sick. But my LBS made me a heck of an offer (I thought) on a Talon 1 and ended up getting that instead.
oyveychris - Where did you get your Lizard Skins Northshore grips? I'm finding a number of them online and they seem to have a very vast range in price from $7.45 (here) to $30.00 (here).
I think the difference in price you see on the grips is one is the lock on version (I HIGHLY recommend going this route) and the other is not (think Hairspray and WD-40).
Great thanks to both of you! Those grips look pretty cool and from the reviews they are a larger grip which should fit my hands a bit better. I'll go with the lock-on version for sure!
The Northshores rock! I will never use the slip-on grips again. They are wider, stickier, look better, and work better than anything else I've ever used. Here's a picture of my bike, I think $300 for a bike that had been ridden twice and still has warranty left from the LBS was a screaming deal!
I was left with no choice on the headset. When I upgraded the fork I took a look at the bearings and they were rusty. Put the new fork in and it was crunchy turning, even after I put on some grease. I suppose thats probably my fault because I never serviced them before that. I'm a still a newbie and didn't know any better. I went with a zero stack Cane Creek 40. Really nice piece of kit, I can tell this thing isnt going to go bad anytime soon.
