Is Giant going to blow it on 650b for 2013?

Or are they playing the 'watch and wait' game?

    Stay tuned....

No it's not because it fits 650B wheels.

Doubtful, giant makes very good bikes but they're not trend setters.

    Two points:
    There are birdies
Giant are not trend setters, but they are trend followers.
And if you watch the industry, you will see that after lagging on 29- ER sales, NO ONE wants to be behind on this.
26ers will be all but dead in the Trail category within 5 years, IMO. And this is coming from a crusty old Luddite.

Those mfg's and riders who weren't in first on 29ers didn't miss much. Sales were low and they were still finding their way with geometry. Those who came in when the market was right also got the geometry and handling right. Buy once , buy right.

So I wouldn't be too worried about trend setters.

If Giant makes a 650b Trance X....I would be all over it.

    Me too

I would also be very interested in a Trance or Reign in 650b if Giant goes that way. I'm less interested in a 29" FS but would not rule out a Trance 29". I'm just not warming up to the Anthem 29" because I feel that I get involved in too many technical trails in my normal riding and no matter what everyone says about the Anthem, it is still an XC race bike.

My 2011 AX1 29er is actually a very good trail bike. nothing like any 100mm travel bke I have ever had before. But I must say My Trance x with F140[ 68 deg] or Rev set at 130mm[ 68 deg] and 650B front is better.

My local Giant dealer has already done 1 Reign X2 with 650B.They are building a second one right now. Only problem I can see is not a big selection of tires yet.

I'm finding the Neo motos very good though. I'm pretty hard to please with tyres. I've got a garage full of 26 and 29er tires that have only been ridden a few times. Schwalbe , geax ,hutchinson and maxxis are all coming on board with more tyres next year.
My Ax1 29er looses it's appeal when tires get past 650g. So that rules out most 29er trail tires. What I find with 650B is I can get better cornering traction and good stabilty in a similar weight range tyre with less negative affect on the handling. If you want rollover stick to 29ers though. That's the magic thing with the AX 29er, give it lots of sag and it "monster trucks" over so much for 100mm travel. The faster you go the better it gets. To keep the handling crisp It stays clothed in lightweight rubber though. Which limits it's trail ness.

I love my ReignX, it's the most versatile do-anything bike I've thrown a leg over. Might try a 650b wheelset on it some day for sh*ts & giggles, but there's no way a 29'r will ever replace it...

    This thread isn't about 29-ers.

    Hope so

Im in the market for a new bike, patiently waiting and hoping the 2013 reign is offered w/650b. If not I'll be getting something else. No reason giant should wait another year, putting it further behind the curve on the 29/650b revolution ... losing sales ... sending giant fans to competitors

Probably not a Trance x though because Fox has only indicated they are doing 650B in the 34mm long travel forks. Not sure about Rock shox. I know they have a modified revelation in the works. Nothing to say Giant won't spec a modified fork though.

Be a good trail bike for sure. It's lacking at the moment with the steep head angle.A 130 to 140mm fork , lower the head tube and 650B would be spot on.

Yeh there is a lot of bend in the seat stay and it looks like a new rear triangle without the tire hugging vertical stay?

Maybe it's me but those wheels look too big to be a 650b

They've got a lot of experience in 29er's now so makes sense to be a mid or long travel 29er. They should have been testing 650b set ups a year ago for 2013 production.

Will 650b wheels fit on an existing Trance?
