This is one of the only things delaying my ordering of a Reign 1 or 2. Concerns are the wearing out of the bottom bracket area of the frame due to sloppy tolerances and general wear. Does Giant still have lifetime frame warranties? Would this qualify? Also, what would it mean as far as upgrading the crank. Are there adapters or are there a bunch of crank options out there? Would appreciate hearing from someone "in the know".
Well, they do have a lifetime warranty in their frames, so if the bb shell were to stretch over time, that would be warrantied (assuming proper installation and removal of the bb) according to my local shop. I believe that all Shimano 2 piece cranks work with that bottom bracket, and I think maybe RaceFace or FSA. I vaguely remember one of them was Shimano compatible. I haven't tried any of this, but that's what I've heard.
Truvativ cranks (and SRAM) will work with a Shimano-type BB with a special spacer on the left bearing (Hope make them), Raceface, FSA, Middleburn, and several others will fit straight in.
I thought a new Reign/Trance X has a Shimano Press Fit BB92 and 92 is a shell width in mm (91,5 mm actually).
I saw some "BB71" bottom bracket in online bike shops but it still had 91,5 width.
