    2012 Trance X2 or 2013 Trance X2 29er?

    I'm looking into buying a Trance X2, but I am having trouble deciding between the 2013 and 2012 models. It looks like I can get the 2012 X2 for near the same price (used) as the 2013 29er X2, and I was wondering if anyone out there has owned/demoed both bikes and can comment on which is a better choice. I'm not as concerned with how the wheel size effects the ride as much as the components/shocks, but any input would help! below is an overview of the components (2012 left, 2013 right)

    Fork Fox 32 F125RL Evolution w/ 15QR Thru-Axle and OverDrive Steerer, 125mm Travel RockShox Recon Silver w/ 15QR thru-axle, OverDrive, 120mm Travel
    Shock Fox FLOAT RP2 Boost Valve RockShox Monarch R

    Shifters Shimano SLX RapidFire, 3x10 Speed SRAM X5, 2x10 Speed
    Front Derailleur Shimano SLX SRAM X7
    Rear Derailleur Shimano Deore XT SRAM X5
    Brakes Avid Elixir 5, [F] 180mm, [R] 160mm Shimano M395, [F] 180mm, [R] 160mm

    I'd definitely ride both bikes. Except for the brakes, Shimano>Avid, and 2x10 vs 3x10, I'd say the components are a draw.

    Try them both out if you can, it comes down to fit and feel out on the trail. Spec wise the 26er has the edge but that means nothing if the bike doesn't feel right. Just got my X2 29er and I couldn't be happier but I am tall so the bike is well in proportion.

    2012 Trance X2 or 2013 Trance X2 29er?

    My 12 trance 26er is awesome! Felt better than the trance 29er I demoed. Same trail the 26steered tighter and the 29er felt sluggish. 29er only felt a hair faster but way more fun on my 26er. and I hate 2x10. 9 spd-fo-lyfe

    There's something about those long grueling climbs that gets my front end all stiff... And I'm not talking about lockout...

    My 2008 Trance X2 is also (still) awesome!! It has just under 5,000 miles on it and is basically rebuilt with upgrades and a dropper post......This bike is just a different type of blast to ride compared to my 29ers.

    Get both if you can, 26" and 29"!

    OP, don't listen to this guy in terms of the parts spec, the 2012 definitely has the better build, in case you don't know how SRAM compares to Shimano in terms of their tiers, here it is, roughly as I don't think SRAM quite evenly stacks as listed, SHimano being better...
    X5 = Deore
    X7 = SLX
    X9 = XT
    Don't rule out wheel size,definitely try to get a demo, maybe you won't like 29ers, but honestly haven't met anyone who has ridden a 29er and not liked them for the riding we do, especially any people new to the sport.

    Really, a draw

    2012 Trance X2 or 2013 Trance X2 29er?

    That's his opinion dude. I also agree that Shimano is way better than SRAM. In MY opinion, Shimano just last longer and t built with better small parts. SRAM uses way too much cheap plastic in there components. Also In MY opinion, I will never use avid(sram) elixir brakes ever again. A royal pain in the butt. Shimano or Hayes brakes for me. Avid bb7''s are the only brake ill use from avid and those are mechs.

    Like everyone says , you definitely need to demo bikes before you buy. Don't over think 26vs29 and don't let our bickering of shimano vs SRAM affect your decision either. That's a whole other topic and each company is loved/hated by different people. Make your own decision on that.

    Edit* I live in a very xc trails heavy area and prefer 26 over 29. Just MY opinion

    I've had both and like the 29er better but like others have said ride both and decide for yourself. My 29er is more fun and faster than my 26 was even though I had all kind of upgrades on it including Mavic ST's. The 29er also gives me more confidence than the 26 but that is a personal thing for me. You may want to wait for the 650b (27.5) and get the best of both. It all depends on where you ride and your riding style.
