I have the option of getting at a clearance price a 2012 Revel 1 26er. Any opinions on it ?...I'll be riding mostly paved trails and on the weekends some simple dirt trails. Mostly concerned about durability and handling - I rode one for about 15 minutes and it felt fine

Depends on what you'll be paying for it. There is a shop around my office that uses them for rental bikes and they seem to hold up pretty well. The components aren't great but in that price range, you're not going to get much and its easily upgradeable as you go a long. They actually sell those rental bikes at the beginning of the year for like $200.00.
