You need to add an option on the poll for how many links each person snapped. I am 175 lbs and on my third link. Two of my friends that are not members of mtbr also broke links. One of them weights 165 and is on his forth link and the other weights 210 and is on his 2nd link. I just want a new redesigned link..

Looking at my log, I have 409 miles of singletrack on the Reign X, so far this season.
From XC to DH/FR hucking (within reason.)
The bulk of the miles were on agressive rough/rocky trails appropriate for the bike...ridden as fast as I could manage..

I weigh 140 lbs. Probably 150 lbs. geared up with pack/water.
    No broken link....knock-on-wood...

I weigh 165 pounds all geared up and I have a 2010 Reign SX and haven't broken a link yet. I have had my bike since the first part of may and ride mostly light freeride/ all mountain with very little up hill riding since I only have a single ring in the front.

I had one of the very first 2010 Reign X frames (Aug 2009) in the US. I don't lots and lots of hard DH runs and a lot of climbing too. No problems with my link yet. From what I've witnessed it's slightly bigger guys, climbing hard, that break links. It's not the DH. Somewhat surprising.

Initial polling (from a statistically insignificant number of people !) shows that it's the big guys breaking their linkages. Keep the votes coming!

It looks like Giant should have put a rider weight limit of 150lbs on the bike! I just got back from a mtb trip to Brianhead, Utah - another broken link for me

There's a few examples out of the 1000s of bikes Giant sold this season...I wouldn't say it is an actual issue.

I have a 2010 Reign SX with short gearing and it hasn't done anything on climbs (that's out of the saddle, torque climbs too)

I am currently on my third link and I have friends that are on their third and fourth links...you don't think that is an issue? Just think of all the broken links that belong to to riders that don't post on mtbr.

I'm just downplaying it so it doesn't happen to me man, since I fit into the demographic that it happens to...And there is some serious torque going on when I climb anything on the SX

This is an interesting point - how many 2010 Reign X's were made?? I can't imagine there would be more than maybe 200 in Australia.

    New redesigned link.

We just picked up the new links from the shop today. Here are a few pictures of the old and new link. They did not trim as much material away at the top and they left a small section on the inside of the link, you can see where the pen is pointing. The only problem I see is two of the three broken links I have, cracked in front of the area where the pen is pointing . I am not 100% this will fix the problem. Time to go test it on the trail!

Not sure of the cost? Our LBS got one in for all of the 2010 RX bikes they sold, since everyone broke 2 or more links?

Not much traffic for a couple months on the Reign X 2010 bottom link's. I just broke mine climbing a simple Jeep trail yesterday. Has anyone got information about the new Links strength and if i can't get a warranty on it how much they cost. I bought my frame on Ebay brain new and only had about 40 miles in the frame before the link broke.

About 800 miles of Utah gnar on my large sx and no issues. 190 geared to shred. No granny gear, running a single 32t.

    not fixed

Got me a brand new 2011 Reign XO. Only had a couple rides on it, and it has been an amazing bike. Washed it after last ride just to find that my lower link is ground up pretty good. Nothing broken yet, but sure it is only a matter of time.

Turns out that the chain guide was causing some of the rubbing on the link. There was 0 clearance between the link and the backside of the chain guide system, tried spacing out guide, but then caused interferrence with chain rings...... Spent a long time with a dremel just grinding away at the backside of the chain guide plate, and finially got it to where it does not rub (at least with the worn down link).

Also found that the damn upper chain guide bolt has milled out a nice U shape on my link

Thought that they fixed this issue, but I guess not. Any ideas on price of link?

I too bought bike on ebay, but have reciept from buyer.
