    2008 trance X1

I saw this come up on ebay a few days ago and I am really interested.... The frame looks great and i know the components aren't the best but it looks like a deal to good to pass up. I emailed the guy selling it and he says literally ALL new components!!! The reserver is around $1300. What do you guys think?

I think its a great deal at 1300 but it will likely end up being much more than that. Also, the feedback of the seller is kinda low even though its 100%. gl if you try bidding on it

Keep in mind that it's built up to around the level of a Trance X2, so his claimed retail of 2400 is not really accurate. I bought a brand new Trance X1 (2008) for 1800, with actual X1 components on it. If you get it for around 1300, great, but I wouldn't go a whole lot higher than that.

Actually, other than the rear derailleur, the parts list on the ebay auction look like they are from an '09 Anthem X3:

Odd that someone would have an '08 Trance X1 and put '09 Anthem X3 parts on it. The cassette and wheels are heavier and more entry level in performance, and I could maybe say the same for the brakes.

"New components" doesn't necessarily translate to 'better' components. As mentioned, new '08 Trance X1s are around $1750, so a used one with original components should sell for around $1300.

Paying $1300 for one with new but lesser quality/lesser performance/heavier components doesn't make sense. The X1 came with 180mm front rotor, this bike has the 160mm rotor from the Anthem as an example of something that is lesser performance. Over time, you may become frustrated that yours isn't a 'real' X1 and it would cost you several hundred $ to buy the parts to bring it back to spec.

Finally, those Forte Terra Trac tires were a Performance Bike house brand thing, sold for around $11, but aren't available anymore. They got good reviews, but you may wish to swap out to a tire that's currently made and offers known performance.:

    Yeah, I meant 2008 X2 which = 2009 X3. Either way, 2008 X2's pop up on ebay for 1000-1400 all the time.
