    03 VT1 vs 04 VT1...???

    greetings... first post...

anyways, local PERF store has an 03 VT1 for $1800.

my previous bike was a SPECiALIZED FSR from 96, that i havent ridden in a few years... (long story).

anyways, i see 2 big diff between them. fork and maybe the XTR rear der.

i really like the 03's PSYLO with the lockout. the previous bike was just terrible and i wished that had a lockout too.

how is the MINUTE SPV? lockout? is the PSYLO not as good (been reading the reviews here)?

is the $800-900 price diff between the 2 not worth the 04?

is the tubeless worth the possible headaches (at least for me)???

yeah, i'm a newb... beeing riding since the 90s (roadie) but all this new stuff is a little mystery to me...

    Full '03 VT1 Specs

    Welcome to the boards!

Like you, I'm in the market for my first new bike in a long time (the VT's are at the top of the list). Therefore, I can not answer your specific questions. But, I did want to point out something about the Giant website.

They keep an archive of previous models going back several years. At this link, you'll find the complete specs for the '03 VT1:

    http://www.giant-bicycle.com/us/030....817&lYear=2003

This way, you can compare component by component to an '04 model.

IMO, $1800 seems like a great deal assuming the proper frame size in available. My LBS wants about $3K for an '04 VT1. Or, put another way, for the price of an '04 VT2, you'll be getting better components and that awesome Crossmax wheelset.

    Hope this helps!

    Paul

    Idea! Option: Buy a 04 VT 2

You could get a O4 VT2 for the dollars you are talking about. Lots of happy VT 2 owners out there.

lol...strike 2... the other PERF store i went to tonite had the 04 VT1, instead of the 03 one... ARRRGGGGGGGGG

kinda funny... i walk up to the racks of bike and i see a HOLD note one that bike with my name on it. sales guy comes up to me and i joke, "i think this bike has my name on it..."

so off i go. dude at 2nd store does a computer search. another store 70 miles away has one in a box. so he calls that store to ship it to his store. at the same time i ask him if he could then ship it to the store closest to my home (this store was about 30 miles from home)...

    the saga continues...

I paid $150 more. Mine came with excellent Thompson Elite seatpost and integrated headset. I added a Minute 3 shock...perfect match for the SPV rear.
