Is this worth the asking price?

My latest find is a JAMIS DAKAR XC EXPERT 17". 26"wheels. Avid disc brakes. Rock Shock Tora 120mm front. Fox rear shock. XT derailers and crank. Carbon swing arm and handle bar. The seller is asking $690.00 obo. I was going to offer $600 or so but I do not know much about this brand bike and I also do not know what year it is. Any feedback is greatly appreciated I am anxious to get out on the trails. Attached is a photo. Is this worth the asking price?-imageuploadedbytapatalk1336049138.801211.jpg

I'm thinking it's this bike. And, as such, they are asking for about a quarter of the price for a six year old bike. Seems about right but I'd try for $550; $600 being a deal either way with the upgrades.

Now that bike is way better than the last one you posted. 6 bills sounds just right. Try for less if you can. Low ball him.

This is from the sellers ad:

full bike specs at link above... size 18..only thing that I changed was the tires over to bontrager xr4 tires and made the rims tubeless. I also changed the brakes to elixer 5,and al changed to a specialized seat. bike rides awesome needs nothing at all. $600 oboName: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336053094.203866.jpg

Seller says he will take $500, which is a better bike? Will the giant be too big, I am 5'-7" to 5'-8" tall and the bike is an 18". Thanks

The seller with the Jamis seems pretty firm at $650, is it worth it? Only reason I ask is it is an hour away from me so I will have fuel cost as well.

Offer him $450 for the Jamis - take it or leave it.

The Reign looks like a nicer bike but it does have a lot of travel - I don't know if that's what you're looking for. It does have an ISIS bb which don't have the best reputation but that shouldn't be a dealbreaker.

Does that tora on the Jamis have the Motion control damper or is it the TK? I would personally go for the giant but that's obviously only if it fits. I had a 2008 Reign X that was an 18" but it measured closer to 17" from center of cranks to top of seat-tube. I'm 5'11" and sold it because it was too small *for me* for all mountain riding, felt good jumping but I couldn't justify how it negatively affected climbing which I do a lot of. I had the stock seatpost at maximum extension while climbing. The maestro rear end felt sooo good though.

I dont know how far away the reign is but I would definitely test it if possible.

I'm not sure what that means and probably wouldn't know even if it was right in front of me. Lol

Looks like XTR cranks on the Jamis. Those are 150-250 alone depending on who's buying.

This is the worst advice ever. If someone low balls me like that I will ignore them.

Good eye - Those are nice cranks, but the rings are damn expensive if replacement is needed
