where should I live.

I am looking for a place to live, as in location. I am from west Michigan, just east of GR. We were tired of the poor Mi economy so we decided to move. My wife won and we ended up in Az, Phoenix for now, we were planning on Prescott. but I am not happy with Prescott, It is very nice little town, and I might someday want a winter/vacation home there, not that I will every be able to afford two houses. Anyway, I am looking for somewhere, cooler, and farther north for sure. I like snow, MT, CO, OR, NE, SD, WI are all very good possibilities. I like being away from everything, yet not more then a 30 min drive to a medium size (50,000-200,000) city. We had a perfect location in Mi, I didn't bike much there, there wasn't anything like here in Az available though.

Biking is not ever going to be on the top of my priority list. Some of the things that are, are having enough rain to have a lawn, a nice big lawn that doesn't need much watering. Temps that rarely if ever get over, 90. I would like there to be some agriculture. I grew up in a farming community and just like to watch, and see farms. I am sure there is more I should include, but I can't think of it now.

You would HATE Texas. Hot weather, brown grass, very nice biking.
Too bad.

see i hate snow so i couldn't live in all the places that you suggested. a little snow is ok, or if i'm away visiting or on vacation but i hate cold so it would have to be kept to a minimum. so you landed in AZ and now you're looking to move up north to cold and isolation? CO i guess, if you like the more liberal side and snow, or MT for more snow, or how bout Iowa? i'll pass on the big lawn, bushes, etc.... too much work and i'm allergic to all.

I got a great ride today here in Prescott. Temps in the 60s.

I suggest Kansas, because what you want is what everyone else on this planet wants, and not everyone is going to be able to get it.

Boise gets way more than 90 for most of the Summer - I lived there as a kid. I love Boise, but I don't think I could take the hot weather May-August anymore.

I live in Spokane, WA and you pretty much described this area. There are great outdoor sports opportunities here in every season. You can live in the woods or farm country and still be 15-30 minutes from downtown. This part of Washington is a very dry climate compared to western Washington, where Seattle is. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is about 30 minutes away.

Portland, OR is a great city and someplace I would like to live, but like Seattle, you have to be willing to put up with a lot of rain. I've lived in Seattle, which is great in some ways, but the rain and traffic drive me crazy. In Spokane, I'm close enough to visit Seattle for a weekend trip, but I don't have to live in the drizzle and rain 9 months of the year. Spokane gets 260 sunny days a year, which gives us just enough rain and snow to be green most of the year and have snow in the winter.

Stay out of my town. We have too many d@mn newbies here as it is. Too much traffic, too much growth. Blah.

If you didn't like western MI then you most definitely wouldn't like Chicago.

These days, anywhere you can find a job that pays enough to pay the rent would look pretty attractive.
