    The wheel wars!

29 versus 26. Who cares and why?

I just want to know why the need to "defend" your preference?

Why care what the other guy/gal rides? IMO we ought to chose the option we prefer and not badger everyone else to make the same choice. Both options have their pluses and minuses.

    Thoughts?

I ride both, no need to defend anything. I do not care what anyone else rides.

I agree, it doesn't matter to me, except when someone
mouths off about how archaic 26ers are.

I really don't care if people ride 26 or 29... As long as they are out riding and having fun

By posting on the thread about what you ride proves that you care what people think about what you ride.

If I defend something it's because it is being attacked. If people didn't attack one or the other size then things wouldn't need to be defended. Idiotic statements should be corrected and the fun part about the internet is that it's full of idiots!

else rides. However don't rag on me for what I ride.

26, 29, clipless, flats, FS, HT, rigid... Doesn't matter what you ride. All that matters is that you do ride.

You can ride both 26/29 and avoid the whole dual wheel sized differential impact experience by simply accepting fate, and getting on a fat bike.

Craig is right, fat is where it's at. That way your riding both at the same time.

No hate homie, just sayin its left out of these discussions. Though i have never ridden it myself, it is far from a commonly referred to option.

I'd say that whitewater kayaks are definitely better than whitewater canoes - more skill is required and many....

Oh wait, this is the endless "which category is best" discussion from my OTHER passion, not the one from whitewater paddling.

Aaahhhh, still as refreshing as ever, even the 10,000th time around (heavy sarcasm).

problem is, people DO care. they secretly judge. Most people i encounter are fairly nice, but i've seen the judgmental types. They comment negatively on price, pedals, single/multi pivot, wallyworld bikes (which i totally understand somebody using for the local rail trail.) etc.

Too bad there doesnt seen to exist a sport that people wont judge!

For that to happen, it'd have to be a sport that doesn't involve people!

I like the spirited back and forth in these forums, but sometimes it turns into a pi$$ing match between guys trying to prove their superiority.

I think being judgmental is a personality trait some people just can't (or won't) get out of their system. Simple enough to minimize your time around someone once you've identified that trait.

Thanks dude, much appreciated! i put a lot of time into this. With the goal to kill my bike lust (an impossible goal but i gave it a college try) and make a real North Coast XC race bike. Thanks to a lot of stand-up honest ebay sellers, and mail order shops the build is as follows:

The tires are actually a 29 x- king 2.2 in front and a 26 mountain king 2.2 in back.
Haven Carbon wheels 29 15mm front and 26 142 rear,
Formula R1 brakes and rotors (one is not installed in the pic lol)
    Ritchey superlogic seat in RED!,
    Ritcher c260 80mm stem
    Ritchey wcs 10d bars
    Fortepro carbon seatpost
Angleset ec 44mm upper +1 degree
Angleset ec 56mm lower +1 degree
    Fox talas 29 95-120 G2 offset tapered kashima 15mm
    985 xtr trail pedals
    x0 carbon crank RED
Home Brewed Components 34 tooth ring RED (still waiting for it)
    Grips I won in a race..lol
    XTR 985 shadwo PLUS RD
    xtr980 chain
    xtr 980 rear shifter
rwc needle bearing in lower shock mount in RED
    '11 trek ex 9.9 21.5" frame

And a very very very light wallet

Cant wait for the trails to dry
