Used bike-Is this a decent deal?

Looking to buy bike used from my brother.
2009 Specialized stump jumper FSR Comp bought new in 2010.
He is meticulous with maintenance and babies everything he owns.
Rear shock just rebuilt and front forks new seals and such.
He rides 1-2 times a week and we live in Canada so only 4-5 months a year.
Told me ha got a crazy deal at end of season for 2600 tax in. Keep in mind things like this in Canada tend to be more expensive than USA.
He is asking 1400 from me. No a scratch on it.
I don't really know how much these bikes tend to depreciate and can't find any comparables in Canada now.
Is this a good deal. I know there might be cheaper but this one is mint condition for used.

I think he is asking $200-400 to much for it..

I just found a guy selling one in a blog from a year ago, he started at 1400 and couldnt get it, ended up selling it for 1200 but it took him a long time to sell.
I think 1k is a fairer price, maybe 1100 or 1200 at the very most, cheers

The biggest concern in buying used is that you don't know how it has been treated, bikes that are abused or neglected are going to incur higher maintenance and repair costs. You also forfeit any warranty because manufacturers will only warranty to original owner.
If your brother has owned it since new and you know how well it has been cared for then it sounds to me like a good deal. Not sure what Specs warranty policy is but anything that falls under warranty should be able to be taken care of through your brother.

It's your brother ... Just borrow it for a loooooong time, and threaten to tell Mom about his past, if he doesn't agree.

Price seems reasonable.

MSRP was $2500 US in 2009.

my rough rule of thumb for buying used is the second it is used, it is worth half msrp, then knock off another 75-100 per year it has been used.

So I honestly think $1100 (CDN or US as the $ is close enough to being the same) is about the max I would consider offering for that bike.

Obviously if there are significant upgrades (say shimano XT brakes instead of the avid elixers) then it could be a few bucks more.
