Univega bike on C-list might trade...value?

    Hey Everyone,

I found this bike on Craigslist. It is a 99 model Univega Alpina 600. It looks like it is brand new (mint). I am thinking it is over priced though as he is asking $200, am I wrong about that? I currently have a Trek 7.2 FX that he is open for trade on. My bike is only about 3 years old and I guess the value to be around $250. Can anyone please share their opinions on this deal? I don't know what to offer trade bike for the Univega + $75? Thanks for any help, I am new and don't want to get screwed. Thanks again.

I personally don't see it as a near equal trade. Some older bikes hold value but Univegas aren't one of them. His asking price is steep. If you're getting it as a bike you will use a lot then if it fits better than the Trek, that's good. But you may run into maintenance and upgrade issues. It likely is 1" threaded headset which is obsolete in mountain bikes.

    Univega Specs

By '99 they should have been on 1 1/8" The 1" stuff was closer to '94 or so. And there are some bikes that will hold value better, but most hardtails are petty much the same. Find one that fits, and feels right.

Check the rims for wear, make sure shifters are working good. It is an older bike, so expect wear and tear on the bike, even if it looks good.

From one flat land to another.

Advocate as if your ride depends on it...
