    Thoughts on carbon seatpost

So I need a new seatpost for my Marlin because I need an offset. I've been riding my saddle too far back on the 12mm offset post I have. I think 25 would be best.

Came across this one on Nashbar and was wondering if there was any reason not to get it.

I'm mostly doing xc and some trail for what its worth

I personally don't like carbon seat posts on a mountain bike for a variety of reasons.

    1) They scratch easy

    2) Once inserted dirt will get in between the seat tube and the seat post and grind like sand paper

    3) I've broken saddles with titanium rails... I can just imagine what would happen if I were using a carbon post

    3) They're not much lighter or better than Alloy posts

    4) Alloy pinching carbon (assuming you're mounting it on an alloy frame) isn't the best scenario for longevity. It's basically begging for it to break. I would feel better mounting a carbon post in a carbon frame since it would at least allow the post to flex a little.

Why are you looking at carbon fiber? To save weight? If so, those are both too heavy. There are lighter aluminum seatposts out there and they will probably cost less money. For instance my Thomson Masterpiece seatpost weighs in at 190g for 350mm of length.
A Thomson Elite at 410mm is still about the weight of those carbon ones you posted.

    Thanks

I wasn't specifically looking for carbon. I was specifically looking for 25mm offsets and noticed these
