Tapered Steer Tube vs Straight Steer Tube

My wife has a Giant DS Warp 2. I am looking for a new fork for it. It currently has has a Rock Shox Pilot with a 1 1/8" straight steer tube on it. Would a fork with a tapered steer tube work on this bike? Would I just need a new head set? Or do only 1 1/8 straight steer tubes work on this? How do I determine what will work. I have always dealt with straight steer tubes and don't want to buy something that wont work.

Actually, if you have an internal cup Zero Stack (ZS 44) headset then it can work. Cane Creek makes a lower cup that brings the bearing outside of the typical internal head tube. It will not work if your bearings are already external or you have a frame than does not use press-in bearing cups. The link to the lower headset is here:
