Suspension components on $1700 to $2000 mountain bikes.

    Hello all,

First let me say that the last two mountain bikes I bought were a 2009 Fisher Hi Fi (base model) and a 2010 Specialized Safire dualie for my better half.

So, it's been a while since I have shopped for a new bike. Now, I'm helping a buddy get back into the sport after a 18 year hiatus.

Here's my question: Every trail bike (Specialized Camber, Trek EX5, Cannondale Rise2, Kona Hei Hei) we've looked at in the price range listed above has a junk coil spring front fork and a "bottom end" air shock.

So, what the heck is going on here? Not all too long ago you could spend $1700 to $2000 and come away with a Fox, Manitou or Rockshox rear shock and at the least an air tuneable Rockshox fork, heck sometimes (think Safire) even a Fox fork!!!

What are the big brand manufacturer's trying to get away with??

    Your thoughts please!!!

    Thank you!!!

It's what the market will bear. Bikes prices are going up faster than other things. Maybe think about used.
