    Scratchy CaneCreek 40series headset..maybe 10hrs.

Installed a CaneCreek ZS44 heaset. Ridden for 10hrs at most and only 3mo old. Disassembled to send fork out for repair and when I removed my bearings to wipe them down, they are scratchy. Both of them, but more so the bottom one. It's scratchy and feels like there's hardly any lube in there like metal bearings directly against the race.

These are the black oxide sealed bearings. Are the Stainless ones for the 110series any better? Will they fit?

Will CaneCreek warranty this type of situation? I'm certainly not going to reinstall them. They aren't terrible, but I'm picky and my sh!t is all brand new.

    Thanks

Yes, the 110 bearings are more smooth and the will last a long time.

Yes, they will fit into the same cups. That is exactly what I did.

    Sweet. Thanks Hawg.

Should I be worried about counterfeits or is there no such thing for these?

No clue. Assuming you are in the good 'ol U.S. of A., buy here and you'll be safe.

Sorry man, I bought the last set they had. I got them off ebay. This seller I asked about counterfeits because they were stupid cheap. I have 1-1/8 straight steerer btw. Other sellers are $35ish and $40ish for 1.5" set.

That is why I bought them so friggin fast. I literally was waiting for your response and hit BIN..lol

be concerned about counterfeits. any fool can lie when asked about that sort of stuff. stupid cheap prices are a dead giveaway to shady product.

this is why I NEVER buy new product on ebay.

You shouldnt be afraid to buy new stuff on Ebay. I've been doing it for 10yrs. I have only purchased 3 or 4 counterfeits out of thousands of purchases and was kinda skeptical on those 3 or 4 anyways. You just need to make sure you know what you are buying and do your homework. This is not to say Ebay is the cheapest anymore because their fees are so high, prices are hit/miss..

I'll be able to tell. I'll inspect them and report back and let ya know.
I honestly think they are misplaced bearings from incomplete sets because they didnt say new in unopened package. When I looked at their history I noticed very cheap priced on oddball sized headsets. This is typical sales style for Ebay. Also, most other sellers were $33-35 so this wasn't like $10 bearings.

Agreed. Ebay is safe as long as you avoid buying from outside the USA. I've been doing it for at least 10 years myself.

Hey Hawg, I ALWAYS use the US only filter except one time...when I bought my dash camera for my car. Bought it from Korea where many better quality ones are made. It was shipped within 12hrs and I got it in 2 days. I couldnt freakin believe it so I ordered up another one that same day..lol Got the 2nd one on the 4th day. All the way from Korea!
Great product and I have one in each of my cars. HD camera for $99 shipped. great deal.

I'll let you know once the bearings come in..

If you are worried about it, call/contact Cane Creek with the serial, they'll let you know.

FWIW, CC had an issue with counterfeiters a couple of years ago.
