Someone else here got a new bike a bit ago and days later broke a finger at his job.
So I've been battling chronic lower back stiffness/ache/weakness for 2ish months. It had been relatively mild and I was able to ignore it. Biking and running always seemed to make it feel better. Mostly it bothered me first thing in the AM (might be time for a new mattress).
Admittedly, I am not good about doing formal core work, especially during the nice weather months. I'm certain this has a TON to do with my back woes. I won't be so lax about it in the future. At nearly 40 this is my first ever memorable bout with back Hell. I never want to be here again.
Last Sun. I raced in a brutal CX race that had stretches of miserably rough terrain that had everyone feeling like they rode a jackhammer. But I think what got me were a few climbing stretches where I wished my easiest gear had just a few more teeth. As I stood and mashed up the hills it felt like my glutes were being forcefully yanked from my back-side.
Tues. I get the call from the LBS that my long-awaited Salsa El Mariachi 3 is in -- woot! My back was feeling pretty rough, but NEW BIKE! By the time I got home it was pouring rain and lightning out, so a ride would have to wait until the next day.
Weds. and Thurs. I did 2 really easy rides with my hubby. Had a couple of minor falls, in part because I feel semi-immobilized. The last 3 days have been really craptacular. Yesterday I ran with my son (he's 11 and training for his first 5k, so we're not running hard, at all...run/walk). We did 2 miles together and I had planned to run another 1-3. There was no way. Now the pain has started to pull on my hips.
Hopefully I can get in to see someone about this in the next couple of days...PT, chiro, sports med folks...anyone. Very frustrating and crap timing. The only thing that would make it worse is if I were training for something specific and/or if the weather were nice. I was still bummed to miss today's CX race. I would have won for the C women based upon previous race performances. *sigh* :bluefrown:
