Hussefelt Stem - Is This Normal?

I just had a new Truvativ Hussefelt delivered and tossed it onto my bike. I have 31.8mm handlebars, and the stem is 31.8 (at least according to the packaging and the print on the side - see photos). However, after tightening down the bolts, there is a significant gap (about 3mm or 1/8 inch) both top and bottom. Is this normal for this stem? As far as I know it only comes in 31.8 anyway. Also, the radius of curvature seems to match the handlebars, it's just that there's not enough circumference to join the two halves. I previously had a 31.8mm Race Face stem installed with no problems.

I'm confused... help! I haven't seen a stem with such a large gap before.

if the halves touch you cant tighten the stemplate over the bar enough, and the bar will rotate.. look allright to me!

    Thanks for the input!

True, there needs to be some gap. The other stems I've had (Raceface, Cannondale, Kona) had about a 1mm or smaller gap so this looked unusual to me. I actually managed to find a closeup picture of the same stem on google and it looked the same as my pictures, so I'm comfy.

    Thanks again

As long as the bolts are torqued tight and the bar isn't able to move it's fine.
