    help setting up my 1x9

Bike is a Giant XTC DS-1 (early NRS full squish). I have been running single speed all summer but have the Ore to Shore race next weekend (24 mile) and I am wussing out and putting on gears. Anyways have the rear all set, problem is my front is 34t ramped ring and the chain is kicking off 2-3 times in a 10 mile ride, not something i want to deal with in a race. So I am looking at a cheap Single speed ring. Also, any advice on decent chain guides that are not too expensive. I dont want to spend a ton converting it since it will only be used geared occasionally. Thanks for the input guys.

A front derailleur is a fine chain guide if you have one laying around. A single speed chain ring would be a huge improvement over the ramped chain ring.

RaceFace makes good un-ramped single chainrings for a decent price.

just ordered a race face in fact. thanks.

one other problem i have is on the rear when i stand to pedal or just pedal hard to accelerate, it bangs and skips. im thinking my rear derailleur is not taking up the slack fast enough or binding somehow. any thoughts on how to fix this?

Fine tune the adjustment on the rear derailleur.
