    Gravel Grinders?

How do you feel about gravel grinders? It seems to be a somewhat popular thing in my area. I have not been on one but do not see the enthusiasm for 50 miles of almost no trails.

    Gravel Grinders?

Fire roads can get you to some pretty remote areas. I love riding everything. Road mountain cross

Love 'em. But I'm in an area where the gravel roads are not laid out in a perfect grid. Nice and hilly and curvy and wooded.

riding bikes anywhere is fun. I have ridden three gravel races this year. it's like a road race without all the pretension. about half the people riding seem "serious" with cyclocross bikes and dedicated gravel bikes and race-oriented hardtails, while everyone else is riding vintage road bikes, whatever mountain bike they usually ride trails on, fat bikes, hybrids, whatever.

Highly recommended. About the only "road" riding I enjoy. Gives you a bit of the exploration and challenge vibe you get from mtb riding with a bit of the socialization you get while road riding. You may also get to see some cool places that you wouldn't otherwise. Great way to kill a day.

Where you live probably has a good deal to do with the popularity of gravel bikes. I think they would be great for those days where I want to ride, but don't necessarily want to pack the car up to get to make a 2 hr. round trip to the trailhead. However, I can leave from my door and cover miles of rain-forested gravel roads, which I can ride whether they are muddy or not. Yes, I'd rather be on a trail. But some days I'd rather be on a bike.

I'm looking to get one in a year. Especially now that some serious MTB brands are making their own "road" bikes (gravel grinders).

No gravel bike for me. Actually I think only one guy has a gravel bike. A few ride single speeds though.

Gravel is fine by me when the trails are a muddy mess. Where I live there is enough elevation change and scenery to keep things interesting for the 35+ mile loop I do a couple of times a year.
