    Epic Craig's List fail

So I got a new wheelset recently, and that bike already had a new front wheel from another project, leaving me with two 26" front disc wheels I'm not using. I like spares, but I think one's enough. I figured I'd list the OEM wheel (2007 Specialized Hardrock Comp) on Craig's List for $20 and see if someone was in enough of a hurry and hated my local used shop enough that they'd take it off my hands. Here's the CL ad.

26" disc front wheel - $20 (my neighborhood)

    Date: 2011-07-02, 7:49AM PDT

Front wheel from a 2007 Specialized Hardrock. It spins round and true and there's no visible damage, but it was on the bike for a while and the hub is not feeling smooth anymore. The hub is a Specialized-branded cup and cone hub. I haven't tried rebuilding it, so it could be fine, or there could be damage to the bearing races. Everything but the spoke nipples is black. The rim is an Alex HRD rim, 22mm between the beads.

Included Specialized-branded quick release skewer, rubber rim strip, and disc rotor bolts. You could install this on a bike and ride it as is, or rebuild the hub.
Now, the email conversation with a guy who thinks he wants it.

    There's no disc rotor.

That was on July 3rd, fairly late at night. I didn't feel like getting out my camera, forgot about it and went riding yesterday, and then an hour ago I got this.

    So I emailed him back.

I'll sell it to you if you want. But you won't like it.

So i found your post and maybe it would work cuz the one you are selling is the same company as mine, also yours is off a specialzed hardrock. I would really like this rim. May i please have your address so i can come and pick it up. I will send you an email notification before i will come thank you.
I'll feel guilty selling this to him, but I could use the $20. So, one more try.

You'll need to buy a new, smaller tire, and it's going to change the way your bike fits and handles and it'll reduce the bottom bracket clearance. I really don't think you'll like it.

You can probably get your current wheel fixed at a shop.

If you're sure, I can meet you at snip, a coffee shop near me. I'm not giving this dude my address. I'm free tonight before 9pm, or tomorrow between 6pm and 9pm. Let me know what works.

While I'd be a little surprised if he buys it from me, I won't be too surprised. My roommate points out that with the apparent level of knowledge this guy has, the way his bike would ride as a result might not even bother him. And I can't think of any more ways to tell him this is a bad idea.

LOL. I promised an epic fail in the title.

I can't help wondering how he thought disc brakes would be mounted to it.

Because I don't care. It's one of two spare front wheels I have and the other one is better. I'll probably just trade it in to my local used place for whatever store credit they give me.

Why not give him a fork, too while you're at it..... an old BMX front end, or maybe part out your kid's old "16er"... for an extra finske?
