    DIY Parts washer

Hi. Does anyone have any good recommendations on a homemade parts washer? I typically throw my chain in a jar of cleaner, but the chain just sits in the gunk that comes off it. I think I need a basket suspended in the cleaner.

    Any ideas?

How about a chopped up sponge at the bottom of the jar?

simple green + tooth brush is what I do. If I need to soak something, I put it in a jar after I've clean the major gunk with a toothbrush and a rag.

Some of the auto parts chains will put a parts bath on sale once in a while for ~$45. Pretty good buy. If your goal is to save money keep doing it the way you are.

I don't ever take the chain off the bike to clean it though.

I use 2 big margerine containers that have lots of small holes drilled 1 of them. I use it to strain the part out and then empty the dirty solvent into to storage and then rinse again the same way and it is fine.

I have a friend that made a washer using a tub and a metal screen from home depot that was for windows and it worked well.

    Limits are your imagination.

I have also started using a coffee filer set up to reuse the solvents and it works great (ps I use mineral spirits, bit hard but it takes grease off anything, paint too if you are not careful)
Yes its retro but IT WORKS!

8 Speed is great and V-Brakes rock!

    Ex-wrench...have a Question just ask!
