Is this a deal? 2006 Gary Fisher Cake 1 for $850

This is a bike listed on a nearby craigslisting. Is it worth the money? He sent pics. It "looks" to be in pretty good shape.

I think its a good deal man. Looks to be in great shape. Check it thoroughly for cracks and stuff like that before the deal is closed

The frames were known to break.......so $850 is a good deal if the parts on the bike are worth most of the price.
I crashed hard enough on my Tallboy to break my leg,
The carbon is way more durable than most people.

Its used, and not the best bike of its era for that matter. For that price I would say no. Used CF is even more scary than used aluminum honestly. You can at least check most alu frames for stress.

yeah well it's an 1 1/2 hr drive from where i live so it would be a shame to get there only to find out it's cracked or damaged. what if he's hard up for cash and i offered $650. Should i jump at that if all is in good shape?

Not really. The fisher cake series was never that good. Its a single pivot design, and rather primitive at that. Ive heard they had alot of problems with cracking of the frames and such too.

+1 on being surprised that the frame isn't broken. If you do go, look really closely at the frame.

2008 Cake 3's are selling for $600-$700 here. They ask over $1000 but they never get that much.
