Can I use a through axle wheel on my 2006 Santa Cruz blur?

I am looking at buying a rear wheel on craigslist but it has a 12x142 through axle setup. The guy on CL tells me there are adapters to go back to 9mm QR but, I wanted to pose the question to you guys - especially if you have personal experience with it (are the adapters a PITA or pretty much a non-issue)?

    Thanks!

It depends on the hub. Some will be convertible among the different "standards," others won't be. What hub does the wheel have?
I've made some bad decisions like taking the gears off my bike. So here's the warning: Do not as I say, nor as I do.

most dt hubs are convertible. with them i think it is as simple as popping the old caps off and pressing in the new ones.
