2013 Rockshox Reba RL Seal came out!

I just received this fork about a week ago off amazon and have ridden it 3 times, maybe about 10-15 miles on it. Today I was going down some very minor downhill, and when I reached the bottom my friend pointed out the seals half way up my stanchions!
    Sag was set at 20%
Also if this is a defect, would I be able to return it after the steerer tube has been cut.
    Thanks

    RMA?
And is it likely that, if I don't return it this could happen again

It's this a dual air? Those chambers can leak into one another. Check the pressure in both. One is likely high, the other low. Common issue on this fork. It will happen over and over. Needs new seals.

Looks like the negative air chamber leaked into the lowers and blew the seal out. It takes a lot of force to push those seals out.

SRAM doesn't deal consumer direct. You'll have to go through a dealer to get it fixed.

So do I return it and get a new one completely, or will they fix it? Negative air chamber leakage doesn't sound good.
By the way its solo air with 120mm of travel...

RS will just repair as needed.
If they will not deal directly with you, you will have to go through a LBS that is a RS dealer to get the repair done.

So the Rockshox warranty says "Claims under this warranty must be made through the retailer where the cycle or the SRAM component was purchased."
So does anyone have any idea how this will work with Amazon?

Amazon is usually good about returns/replacements. Just give it a shot, takes like 10 minutes to find out what they will do, all online.

So is the negative air chamber leakage the official diagnosis as to why this happened?

Send it back under warranty and let RS give you the official diagnosis.

Most likely. Pressure escapes from negative chamber into lowers, proceeds to pop seal out. The fit on Rockshox seals is TIGHT. They don't just pop out by themselves.

I'm glad to see you're taking the advice of experienced cyclists.

You're making a big deal out of something small. It's a pita but not that complicated.

Take the shock in to your local shop and ask for their help. If you bring in some homeade cookies, you'll be golden.

If you see this please can you tell us the out come of what happened with your forks.
This has just happened on my brand new solo air reba's (I had ridden 10 miles) I wasn't even on the bike when I heard the seal blow out. Unfortunately I am not as trim as I used to be (95kg) so there was approx 120 psi in them but I hadn't ridden anything difficult in that 10 miles - just forest track.

I cant look at the pictures from my computer at work so I dont know if the dust seal that popped was from the air spring or the damper side. Anyways, the exact same thing happened to me on my brand new 2013 reba (2 or 3 rides in). The dust seal from the aire side popped out and the pressure was way low. The cause was a faulty oring leaking air into the lowers, popping the seal out, also causing the pressure loss and increased sag. I used the rebuild kit that was included with the new fork and changed out the 3 orings in the air piston. The fork has been good ever since. You can buy those orings in the general commerce for about a buck each.

It seems that this issue is fairly common from what I can see. Says a lot about the QC at the plant assembling these forks.

    Good Luck
    Abel

Thanks Abel, I assume the same happened to mine but I have sent them back now.

I am surprised the dust seal creates an air tight seal between the stanchions and lower legs although once they have worn a bit this is probably not the case. With such a good seal you would be compressing the air in the lowers as the fork moves through its travel (as the stanchions move into the lower legs reducing the volume of space). I assume this is why new forks do not feel as plush until the dust seal has worn slightly so it is not so air tight?

Same thing happened to my son's fork less than 100 miles out of the box. We had a local shop install a new seal kit and it came out again on the drive home. Hoping we can get a replacement before his race this weekend.

this just happened to mine today riding in the southern nevada desert. Does this mean i need to get my fork rebuilt? It is about 1.5 years old. Not very excited about it although i have the option of riding new 27.5" c-dales for the next two days to keep me on the trails.

Happened to me a while ago on a newly-rebuilt Revelation. I was compressing the fork (no air in the chambers) to make sure everything looked good after I'd bought a used bike with the fork on it. I pressed the seal back into place, and it's been fine ever since.

Side-note: It does seem that the (-)air chamber on my fork leaks a bit too, but the seal that popped out wasn't on the air side. If this was a recurring problem, I'd be more concerned, but the fork works perfectly fine otherwise. If it doesn't happen consistently, I wouldn't consider it a big deal.

But if you haven't done any maintenance on that fork in 1.5 years, it's time to take a good look at it.
I've made some bad decisions like taking the gears off my bike. So here's the warning: Do not as I say, nor as I do.

More than likely you need to rebuild your air spring. Luckily this is a ver simple procedure and a very cheap one. I buy hardware store orings for about 4 dollars for the whole air spring side. Was the air pressure low when you checked it after the seal popped? If it happens again, you will have to change the orings on the spring side.

    Cheers
