How wide can I go?? "TIRES"

Thinking about putting some 2.35" wide tires on my 09 HKEK stock Bontrager rims... Will they work?

It depends on the internal width of the rim, and how good or deep the bead seat is.
Ive used a 2.5" tyre on a rim with a 19mm inside diameter. This probably wouldn't be recommended but it worked fine even on harsh downhills.
Im not familiar with your rims but I'm sure it would be fine.

Also check the clearance on your forks to make sure it will physically fit, mainly at the brace. You shouldn't have a problem there with a 2.35" tyre but better safe than sorry.

Duster rims, yes? No problem there. I'd be more concerned about the tires fitting in your frame. The fork's probably ok.
Worked at Trek/Fisher dealer 2008-2013. Only a little biased.
